In an editorial published Wednesday, The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge called on Obama to visit “the most anguished state in the union.” The newspaper noted that Obama interrupted his two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week to attend a fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on the Massachusetts island.

Democratic governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards said,

"We welcome him (Trump) to LA, but not for a photo-op," said his spokesman Richard Carbo in a statement. "Instead, we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of this storm."

Well, Trump heeded the advice...he brought supplies and a sizable donation, so he was welcome. He visited the distribution center at a local church with Franklin Graham and then obligingly left the area a couple hours later after his drop-off. :awesome:

I can just imagine if Obama had gone down earlier, cons would have run amok with bleats of "grandstanding."

President Obama visited Louisiana flood victims on Aug. 23, but he was criticized for not coming down sooner. Was this the right time for him to visit?

There was a discussion about the most appropriate time. And I told [the White House], I would rather get out of the response phase and into the recovery phase because I didn’t want to have to take first responders who were engaged in urban search and rescue and go close down the Interstate and block off every intersection and provide the security. From my perspective his visit was timely.
