Nobody has proven the claim that these cities have been "controlled" or "run by" Democrats.
The only thing that is known is that some of these cities currently have or have had Democrat Mayors for a given period of time. What is not known, is the year-to-year political makeup of the City Councils or Boards of Commissioners of these cities.
According to the flawed logic of the standard talking point claim constantly being made by the right, the political party of the Mayor is the only determining factor in all of the fiscal and other policies enacted by these cities, without taking into account the power and influence of the rest of the cities' governing bodies that in fact, wield more power than the Mayors alone.
So, just because a Mayor is a Democrat or a Republican, does not mean the rest of the City Council or City Commission members are of the same party or political ideology or that they go along with the Mayor on every issue any more than a State Legislature always goes along with the Governor or Congress obeys the President. Mayors often get overruled by these Councils or Commissions which may very well be dominated by members of the opposition party.
