This is what a world leader does

The Trump administration is speaking out in support of Iranian citizens after protests challenging Iran's government erupted in major cities.

The protests were sparked this week by anger over economic issues — prices of basic goods like eggs and poultry have surged. Thousands have since taken to the streets of several cities in Iran, and demonstrators have criticized Iran's government during the protests.

_____________

The Leader of the Free World is back in the WH.
Yes, but you will never see anybody left of the aisle saying anything, which is truly a tragedy. Here is a prime example of just how brutal the regime is towards women.

I agree with your general premise here Covfefe. This country as you well know does not have Kings. Elected officials need to listen to their constituents and govern accordingly. I personally do not think polls are a method they should be utilizing for that task though.
How else do they accumulate the information, very few hold town halls, seems polling the public is one way to get the data. I’d be curious to hear how they should find out their constituents feelings?

The man, like him or not, does not let polls as a rule decide policy. Quite the opposite of many other politicians.

That alone does not make a great leader. Idiots can ignore polls, too - as well as narcissists.

Trump acts out of self-interest. That's why he doesn't care about the polls.

I don't know how anyone can call him a good leader. He routinely throws surrogates & employees under the bus; he changes his mind on a whim, or if he feels offended; he is dishonest at his core. What qualities does he possess that anyone here equates with exemplary leadership? Leaders don't react emotionally; they don't care about crowd size.

Iran didn’t used to be brutal to women or brutal generally.

Trump called out Iran over its abuses at great length when he spoke before the UN in September. And here in late December the Iranian people are taking to the streets. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

Currently, Trump has backed them [Obama never did] he said ‘the world is watching’ and some other things on Twitter. No doubt he intends for those words to reach the Iranian people via social media.

Trump is unquestionably the leader of the free world—because he is acting like it. Regardless of how he polls in the world—-whatever those numbers are worth.

It's almost like JPP liberals have an investment in maintaining the theocratic regime in Tehran.

Maybe they are hoping the mullahs will cling to power and keep the nuke deal - Obama's legacy - alive.

the last widespread and sustained protests in Iran occurred in 2009, after fraudulent elections. At the time, President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shamefully sat on their hands, saying and doing nothing to support the protesters. They later justified their silence by claiming that protesters wouldn’t want U.S. support, which would enable the Iranian regime to paint the protests as a foreign plot.

In reality, despotic regimes will always make the claim that America is behind protests.

these started out as food riots - the same thing that started the Arab Spring..

I applaud Trump's clarity of purpose, and calling out the despotic regime...
I don't know if that helps, but it's the right role for the USA,and it could give the protestors heart

Clarity of purpose, that is just rich, good laugh, thanks
