smh... yes, to a degree, but Venezuela was about as close as you could get to pure socialism. The government had taken over almost all aspects of the market.

They aren't. They too need higher oil prices in order to pay for all the promises they made to their people.

The '90s recession was not minor, it cost an otherwise half decent POTUS his 2nd term.

The recession ended in 1982 at the end of the year, the economic boom was from 1982-2000.

The 90's recession was indeed minor. That is not what cost Bush the election. He broke his word when he declared 'no new taxes' and Perot siphoned off a lot of votes as a result.

The 90-91 recession ended in early 1991. GDP was at 3.6% in the election year. Only an idiot would pretend the minor recession of 90-91 cost him the election about 18 months after the recession ended and strong growth had returned.
