Personally ... I look at The US Involvement in Torture this way.

If you don't care if our Enemies and US Troops are Tortured ... then why should I care.

I'm not in the Armed Forces and no one in my extended family are anymore.

Well torture does not work. I was reading a story from a reporter who was captured and tortured by ISIS. He confessed to being a secret agent to try and make them stop. He made up stories that he thought they wanted to hear so they would stop hurting him. The US torturers admit that the info they get in not actionable. But the sophistical thinking of rightys never stops. Sounds logical to me. Only it isn't.
 
John McCain is old, bitter and dying of a horrible disease. He's filled with anger and unforgiveness.
There were many before him mostly from WWll who suffered greatly and humbly in POW camps in Germany and Japan. Ones who survived came home, forgave their enemies, moved on and let it go. They were just happy to be home with their families and live simple quiet peaceful lives and eventually die a peaceful death.
The sand is almost all at the bottom of the hour glass for him...he needs to lay that burden down NOW before it's too late.

The question for ALL government officials,and even the Mueller investigation should be on legal lines-
and Haspel has repeated she would never start up enhanced interrogations -because they are illegal..

Anyone associated with torture should be treated as a social outcast.

We had debates about torture for years on this forum, during the regime of George Dumbya.

With conservative largely defending and/pr providing cover for water boarding, sado-sexual torture, and sadism. It was, for myself, a watershed moment giving me insight into movement conservatism that I had previously not even dared entertain.

Liberals, universally, to a woman and to a man, came down against torture. Those debates were a profound moment in time of moral clarity. And conservatives did not distinguish themselves well.

We need to leave torture behind us, and anyone who was associated with in or advocated it.

Really, when you think about it, the Architects of Torture in the Bush Administration should be in The Hague on charges of war crimes.

I guess that documentary 24, showed all that torture not only works, but does so quickly every time. The evidence through out history shows it does not. In the end, it is just about hurting people. Call them enemies and you can have fun waterboarding and torturing. It is immoral. Treating people that way is abuse . Bush had black sites or sent captured people to countries who had no restraints. Cheney is like trump. He said it worked and he was going to do it. The US is diminished by it and even by the idea that many want it. Torture is immoral and repugnant., it shows many people are not socialized. It diminishes us as a people and harms our national respect. I used to like that we did not torture. But Repubs love it. When they are in power, we will become haters, war mongers, and bigots.
