True that. Trump really just needs Cohen to keep himself out of trouble and not have anything Mueller can pin on him. Manafort was essentially toast the minute he walked in the door, because of how much dirt is on him. Luckily for Trump, it's just Manafort's past coming back to bite him, and has nothing to do with the campaign.

Since Michael Cohen is Trump's longstanding attorney, is attorney-client privilege an issue for this purported "brilliant strategy"?

There is no attorney-client privilege when they are both engaged in criminal behavior.
