Civil War perpetrated by the Political Class

Trump is a pragmatist and so am I lol.

Instead of trying to get into Trump’s mind and play psychoanalyst, I only concern myself with results.

But let’s say Trump is all about Trump. Let’s say Trump wants to be The Greatest President Ever, in All of the Known Galaxy. As long as he is making the good decisions that benefit the country I’m cheering him and 100% behind him.

And he may be doing exactly that. I’ve actually considered that possibility. But who knows, really.

Why should I care? Why would you care?

Yep, if Trump gets an ego rush from Making Amerida great again, I'm all for it.

The guy is all in, ... he wants that legacy of a prosperous and fair America.

Which is what I said to Anatta. He continues to insist that Trump's motives are pure and everyone else is self-serving. Either you never choose to read his posts, or you must have him on ignore. :D

It’s early and I was scanning the thread lol.

Why should anyone care if Trump wants to Be The Greatest President Ever—-for purely selfish reasons? I don’t know about you but I want my car mechanic to be The Greatest Car Mechanic ever because those types care about their work.

The point is that it's not really an argument to counter my criticism of Trump with the everyone is self-serving canard.

I was admitting to Anatta that it's possible that Trump's narcissism will lead him to strive for greatness as president, as he craves appreciation. The left always assumes that only bad things can come from his narcissism, while I admit that it can go either way.

I don’t know that Trump is any more narcissistic than Obama was.

Actually, one has to be at least somewhat narcissistic to want the job. Obama was a narcissist; but where Obama was passive-aggressive [pyschoanalysis is fun!] with it, Trump gets in other people’s faces. Just recently Obama said ‘the country wasn’t ready for him’ or something to the effect.

That’s subtle narcissism—but it’s some big time narcissism.

There’s nothing passive/aggressive with Trump lol. People either appreciate it or they don’t. I find his candor refreshing.

I'll add that, thanks to the mere existence of Teddy Roosevelt, it's not as though Trump has zero competition for being the most narcissistic president of all-time.

You don’t understand the definition of narciscism if you think Obama was a narcissist, Obama has empathy for others, something Trump lacks.

Narcissism is an inflated sense of self worth.

I’m not even sure Wanting to be the Greatest President Ever constitutes narcissism in that sense. Thinking the ‘country wasn’t ready for you’, um yeah, that’s pretty narcissistic.

At any rate, I consider armchair analysis a pointless exercise.

The summit with Kim is tomorrow, isn’t it?

I thought Trump was a narcissist long before he got involved with politics. So, I don't really need to consider how wanting to be a great president plays into the analysis.

If Trump turns out to be a great president [and that’s a distinct possibility] why should I care about his narcissism?

To whatever extent he’s a narcissist.

Look how much damage Teddy Roosevelt did to America after his presidency was over. It's certainly possible that history could repeat itself on that front, given that past presidents have had an increasingly bigger visibility of late.

Oh, my goodness. There is absolutely no comparison.

Trump is a textbook narcissist. We have never seen his like in public life.

The biggest damage has been done by sheer mediocrity and presidents failing to keep their promises.

Maybe Trump will set a new standard.

That’s debatable.

But again, if he’s a successful president why do we care?

It's not debatable, and you're going w/ anatta's argument there: it doesn't matter if the President is moral, or a role model, or anything we'd want our children to emulate, as long as he/she gets results.

It's a valid argument, but I'll never join it.

No, the clinical definition is more than that, you are confusing Self inflated ego with narciscism.

Funny, you find it pointless, yet you engage in it.
