How does prosecuting Manafort, who clearly was defrauding the United States, show that Mueller is a never Trumper?

I see the trial differently than you do, it looks to me like proof beyond a reasonable doubt has been established, but I don't know what a jury will do (predicting a jury is a dangerous game). I also don't think the result of the Manafort trial will have a lot do do with the rest of the investigation.

If Manafort walks, it will have a HUGE impact on the lying the media is engaging in. That in itself is a huge win for Trump.

I read from a real pro that there is a less than 1% chance he is going to walk or get less than life in prison.

Question; if the FBI had interviewed Manafort and Gates in 2013 and 2014, why did it take the Mueller probe to indict him finally in 2017?
