Why evangelical Christians support Trump

I agree with most of the above... I say no to ID in public ed. When I want my kid to learn from the Bible (and I do) I should take care of that at home. I see that as my responsibility. But I also don’t want taught as fact what continues to be theory.

I’m also not a big proponent of the 10 commandments monuments as I think they are outdated and intensified. Good rules to live by though...well, except the one that was changed. Nativity scenes are not important to me either. Not a big Christmas guy. Not a Christian holiday, IMO. I love that time of year though.

I am absolutely against abortion and do view it as murder. If I were supreme ruler I’d outlaw it but I’m not nor do I have any delusions that abortions will cease. I just cannot vote for anyone who would expand availability or make it easier to obtain. It seems that on the national scene a candidate must bow before the altar of abortion to have a chance at all. That’s something that reall hurts us moderate to conservative Democrats.

As to Hillary being more of a Christian that his highness, I would hold neither of them up to my boy as an example of a Christian...or even a good person. But I have long since ceased from thinking I could find a perfect candidate.
I, too, the candidates are really disappointing.

As someone who has taken several university-level science classes I can tell you that it is not taught as "fact" -- but as the facts as we know them right now. When I was in 5th grade we had to do a science fair project. I did mine on the evolution of the horse (because like all little girls I was in love with horses) from Eohippus up to modern day equines. I was 10 years old at the time, and that was in 1963. Turns out that evolutionary science has changed the timeline for horses since then... and that's how science works.

I wish you were not a big proponent of 10 commandment monuments in public places because they are a symbol of one particular religious sect and because separation of church and state... not because you think they are outdated.

I am absolutely against abortion and do view it as murder.

As a woman, mother, grandmother, and formerly fecund creator-of-life (five children), I agree with you there. That being said -- that is my own personal belief. I cannot ethically impose it upon some other woman.

I am a "medicine woman" with an interest and knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants, as well as being a modern-educated nurse. People have known for thousands of years what plants to use to induce a miscarriage when the timing wasn't right to have a child, as well as ways to prevent conception. The Catholic church called us "witches" because of it. You are right. Abortions will not cease. People want to have sex because sex is joyous, awesome, so much pleasure... and sometimes comes with a price that the couple isn't able to pay. I would ask you to think some about that, and decide if you want to increase joy in this world -- or condemn the mother to a horrible death because she has to seek non-legal means to not be a mother. To me, men who would condemn a woman to that fate are not men at all.... they are cowards who don't want to face the fact that they are 50% of the reason for an abortion.

I appreciate the honest response...

Thanks. Christians are not, historically, people who rejoice in the pleasures of our bodies... including sexuality. That's a shame. As far as any of us know, this life is all that we have. If we believe in any sort of god(s), let us all be thankful that we were blessed with our sensuality, our joy in each other male and female, our delight in this planet and the senses we have that let us appreciate it. This is worship at its highest form, to me anyways.

You are a creator. You work your gardens and you place seeds into the earth and bring forth life. I do the same. Every living thing on this planet evolved to create life... whether by reproduction or by the means that humans, birds, animals do so. Life is what it's all about. Destroyers of life are the Unmakers. By that I don't mean abortion as much as I mean war.

Christians are way more diverse than your post suggest!

we do not create. We are USED by God in His plan of Creation. BTW, true Christians recognize the total depravity and wickedness of mankind. This is why the Cross. Only through the Born Again experience can one have the relationship with God.

The reason American evangelicals can support Trump is that they were shaped by slavery and reject Christianity.

Quotes:

...When you say 'radical right' today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye.

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

― Barry Goldwater

Back when "conservatives" were conservative.

How exactly, back when "conservatives" were conservative, did they help or support Black people?
