Yes you are exactly right, radiant heat aka infrared radiation doesn't heat the air but objects that are in the direct path of the infrared rays absorb the energy immediately. Once they heat up, they radiate heat to other objects in the vicinity. This is basic physics but Gomer was probably out to lunch when they were teaching physics 101.

Funny but not exactly true. 60%of their forest land is privately owned and about three quarters of that are family owned. The real lesson here is one democrats in America refuse to even entertain because it scratches the surface of their superficial philosophical underpinnings---private ownership of natural areas is better for the environment than public ownership of them. Private owners who get the benefits, also have to bear the costs and are more prudent as a whole. Public ownership sees the opposite because people can extract all the benefits without having to bear any appreciable costs. There is no better illustration of this than the oceans, or really any watershed.
