Mueller plows ahead, issuing more subpoenas to associates of conservative commentator

Source: ABC News

Special counsel Robert Mueller has zeroed in on at least three new witnesses associated with a conservative commentator connected to former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone, signaling that investigators remain focused on the activities of Stone and his associates despite the continued public silence on a matter long thought to be close to resolution.

ABC News has learned that at least three new witnesses connected to Stone associate Jerome Corsi – the former Washington, D.C., bureau chief for the far-right internet site Infowars – have been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury hearing testimony on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Copies of those subpoenas delivered to two individuals late last year bear Mueller’s name and call for the retention and producing of documents, communication logs and other records involving two people: Corsi and Stone.

The two individuals, whose names have not been publicly released, also testified before Mueller’s grand jury in December, according to the subpoenas and three sources who confirmed their attendance.

Facing Disbarment, Manafort Resigns as Lawyer

Source: Courthouse News

Heading off a Tuesday disbarment hearing, convicted ex-Trump confidant Paul Manafort submitted his resignation as a lawyer in Connecticut.

Represented by attorneys at the firm Ury & Moskow, the 69-year-old Manafort stipulated in the Jan. 9 filing that he is waiving his right “to seek reinstatement at any time in the future.”

Manafort, who was convicted in August of eight counts of bank and tax fraud, has been incarcerated in the Alexandria Detention Center in Virginia while he awaits sentencing. The former lobbyist and chair of President Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign was among the first U.S. citizens to be charged in the ongoing Russia investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Though found guilty by a jury in Virginia this summer, Manafort also pleaded guilty in Washington to conspiracy against the U.S. and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

READ: Mueller Releases Filing On Why Manafort Broke Plea Agreement (UPDATED)

Source: Talking Points Memo

Special Counsel Robert Mueller released a detailed — but redacted — filing on Tuesday outlining why he believes Paul Manafort violated his plea agreement with prosecutors.
(SNIP)

The declaration lays out the background of Manafort’s purportedly brief period of cooperation with the government, including an episode after his guilty plea to witness tampering in which he denied that his Russian associate, Konstantin Kilimnik, attempted to tamper with witness testimony.

For instance, it appears that during a grand jury session on October 26, 2018, Manafort was asked to discuss his interactions with Kilimnik, who has been tied by Mueller to the Russian intel agency that hacked Democrats in 2016.
(Snip)

The filing also says that Manafort lied to prosecutors about his contacts with the Trump Administration in front of the grand jury. The political consultant supposedly told prosecutors that he had no contact “with any member of the Administration and did not try to have such contact.” The filing goes on to say that “evidence demonstrates that Manafort’s statements were false.”

Senate advances measure bucking Trump on Russia sanctions

Source: The Hill

The Senate voted to advance legislation blocking President Trump’s plan to lift sanctions against three Russian companies despite an 11th-hour effort by the administration to kill the bill.

Senators voted 57-42 to get the resolution over the initial hurdle, where only a simple majority was needed.

Though only a procedural vote, it’s the latest foreign policy break between the Trump administration and Senate Republicans, who have been wary of his warmer rhetoric toward Moscow and comes amid reports that the president has discussed pulling the United States out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

“I do disapprove the easing of the sanctions because I think it sends the wrong message to Russia and to the oligarch and close ally of Mr. Putin, Oleg Deripaska, who will in my judgement continue to maintain considerable [ownership] under the Treasury’s plan,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told reporters.

Bill Barr wrote a lengthy memo outlining his hostility to an investigation implicating the President, and then discussed it with him prior to his nomination for AG. Absent recusal, this should be utterly disqualifying.

When Trump is gone, what will be left of the rule of law?

when Mueller comes in with the hard evidence linking Trump directly to Vladimir Putin, as in employee/boss, as we all know exists, then what?

Barr first filters the evidence then simply sez you can't indict a sitting president?

so now the only remedy left to get this Putin stooge out of the WH is an impeachment proceeding involving both houses of congress and takes how long?

while a Russian agent sits in the WH?

WTF??
