Washington D.C. (Jan. 13, 2019)—Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Rep. Adam Schiff, and Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the Chairmen of the House Committees on Oversight and Reform, Intelligence, and the Judiciary, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s comments last night on Fox News regarding Michael Cohen’s testimony before Congress:

“The integrity of our process to serve as an independent check on the Executive Branch must be respected by everyone, including the President. Our nation’s laws prohibit efforts to discourage, intimidate, or otherwise pressure a witness not to provide testimony to Congress. The President should make no statement or take any action to obstruct Congress’ independent oversight and investigative efforts, including by seeking to discourage any witness from testifying in response to a duly authorized request from Congress.”

Michael Cohen postpones his congressional testimony after Trump threatens his family


Former Trump “fixer” Michael Cohen announced on Wednesday that he is postponing his planned congressional testimony while citing threats made against his family by President Donald Trump.

In a statement first reported by the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, Cohen attorney Lanny Davis said that Cohen would postpone his testimony due to “ongoing threats” that Trump made against Cohen’s family “as recently as this weekend.”

Davis said that Cohen would be happy to testify before Congress at a later date but “this is a time when Mr. Cohen had to put his family and their safety first.”

Late last week, Trump issued a threat against Cohen’s father-in-law, whom the president has in the past insinuated could be prosecuted for assorted crimes

Additionally, as Haberman notes, Trump told Fox News host Jeanine Pirro over the weekend that prosecutors and reporters ought to be looking into Cohen’s family.

Cohen had been scheduled to testify about his past work with Trump on February 7th.

Davis can not provide proof

Cohen doesn’t want to answer questions about the recent Buzzfeed story on Mueller. Cohen is going to jail because he lied to Congress. I guess he doesn’t want to risk another charge of lying to Congress.

Just in: House Oversight chair Elijah Cummings and House Intel chair Adam Schiff say Michael Cohen not testifying has never been an option. "We expect Mr. Cohen to appear before both Committees, and we remain engaged with his counsel about his upcoming appearances.”

Yea, the intimate "fixer" certainly wouldn't have any [other] inside info.........:whome:

I do find, @ least what I have read thus far about "threats" a bit problematic/questionable but it is troubling that trump & rudy are dragging the man's dad into this..

you'd find it less problematic if you read in context the "threat" was a reference to any investigatory problem
he was exposed to.

Inside info on what exactly? Russian collusion? Trump Tower where the lie is about -again according to Cohen-
that Russia was in touch with Trump over it thru Cohen.

How much did Cohen inform Trump directly, and was Trump acting on anything Cohen said?

and then so what? Trump lied about it -where's the crime? corruption? in legit negotiations

Mueller will string out his narrative backed on process crimes that there just had to be corrupt motives -
even though he can't show them.
