You ignore the fact that in 2017, the nationwide fertility rate was 1,765.5 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age—well below the rate of 2,100 births per 1,000 women necessary to keep the population stable.

But the point is those kids would then grow up to be adults, and assuming we didn't skimp on the support they needed to become healthy and productive, they'd then pay back that support many times over in the course of their productive careers.

My point is that I don't think we should spend three or four times as much as the next-closest country, and that pretty much every other nation in history agreed that spending three or four times as much as the next-closest country wasn't a good idea. You tried to respond with a completely off-topic info graphic that didn't compare any country's spending to any other country, thus fully failing to even address my argument. It was an utter non-sequitur. Now, if my argument had been, say, something about total US defense spending as a percent of GDP between 1917 and 2011, you'd have hit on the perfect graphic to address that argument. Since it wasn't, though, you just embarrassed yourself. Did you really imagine that you were responding to my argument? Or did you just hope to distract from it with an unrelated graphic?
