But the homicide rate didn't go up. I'm sure some killers did switch weapons, but because it's harder to kill people with a knife or a hammer, violence still went down.

But there was the rather spectacular North Hollywood shootout in 1997. Almost 2,000 rounds fired and the 2 with the machine guns were the only deaths.
