New, higher tariffs could raise the prices of these Chinese-made products

"New, higher tariffs could raise the prices of these Chinese-made products"

News Flash: That IS the idea of placing Tariffs on Chinese goods.

It’s like giving remedial lessons in basic economics lol.

No producer or supplier wants to have prices raised on their product—by anyone but themselves, for the simple reason it means they are going to sell less of it, and that translates into less profit.

It also protects Industry that pays bribes, whoops, I mean, pays 'political donations' to our Representatives. Some American Industries are IMPORTANT and can't just be left to 'Market Prices'. Like Sugar.

"Imports of sugar into the United States are governed by tariff-rate quotas (TRQs), which allow a certain quantity of sugar to enter the country under a low tariff. TRQs apply to imports of raw cane sugar, refined sugar, sugar syrups, specialty sugars and sugar-containing products. Import restrictions are intended to meet U.S. commitments under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture (which resulted in the creation of the World Trade Organization)."

The U.S. Sugar Plantations need 'protection' from the super cheap sugar that is produced around the world. There's a lot of sugar in American food. Lots of Profit to be made on the backs of American Consumers.
The Sugar Lobby pays Congress a lot of money for this Protection, in your opinion, should 'Free Market Competition' be applied to the sugar Industry?
