How Disgusting Are Big Corporations?

Hmmmmmm, idk... They've merely given us every single luxury that we enjoy today, including but not limited to: easy, immediate, and cheap access to groceries at local supermarkets, computers, cell phones, TVs, Blu-Ray players, digital media, electricity, roads and railways, vehicles, airplanes, farm equipment/machinery, household appliances, clothing, you name it...

Yup, DAMN them big corporations for providing us with such luxuries.... DAMN them to HELL!!!

:palm: :palm: :palm:

They gave us nothing. They sold them for profit and did real damage to the country while they were doing it. Technology marches on.

you drive a car, but is a car a person? doy

People assemble the car. People design the car. People provide support for building the car. Salesmen sell the cars. People provide the fuel that goes in the car. People supply the steel and materials needed to build the oil wells that supply fuel for the cars. People supply the steel and materials needed to build the cars. Etc., etc., etc.

People drive the tractors that plow the fields to feed the hungry. People build the tractors that people use to plow the fields to feed the hungry. People assemble the tractors. People design the Tractors. People provide support for building the Tractors. Salesmen sell the Tractors. People provide the fuel that goes in the Tractors. People supply the steel and materials needed to build the oil wells that supply fuel for the Tractors. People supply the steel and materials needed to build the Tractors. Etc., etc., etc.

what we have here is a case of neocon retardation syndrome.

I feel ya man. I used to be an unconditional corporatist apologist. then I woke up.

a corporation is a legal entity that people use to distance themselves from their actions.

There are many good reasons for the purpose of the corporation:

Personal liability protection:

This is the most important reason for incorporating. Shareholders are not legally liable for the corporation's actions, debts, and obligations. That's because the corporation is a completely separate entity from its owners.

Perpetuity:

Unlike proprietorship businesses and partnership firms, the existence of a corporation does not depend on the life of its owners. It continues to exist until it's legally dissolved or merged into another business.

Ownership transferability:

Transferring the ownership of proprietorship and partnership businesses can be quite cumbersome. You need to change the title in the property documents, prepare new deeds, and take several other administrative steps. However, in case of corporations, the ownership is held in the form of shares. You can easily transfer the ownership by transferring your shares.

Ability to raise funds:

Incorporation makes it much easier to raise capital for your business. People prefer to invest in corporations because of limited liability and easy transferability of shares.

Other benefits:
Corporations have a well-established body of law and legal precedent, which serves as a reliable guide to owners and managers.
Corporations are the ideal structure for public companies.
In some cases, corporations can be beneficial from taxation point of view. For example, you can elect for the S corporation status, which lets you pass the business income through your personal tax return.

still not people.

Hello rjhenn,

It makes so much sense that it's the way it is done all over the world, and actually the way it has been done in the USA back when the USA 'was great,' (whenever that was has not been specified by those who want to 'make the USA great again.')
MAGA is really just code for Make America White Again.

Corporations are wrong fundamentally. The fact that we accept corporations their main purpose is simply to increase profits absolves them of the blame for the damages they do. They should be held to a higher standard and not harm the environment and the health of people.
In the beginning, corporations were chartered and the charter could be taken away if they did damage to the country. Our country was founded by people who lived under the control of British companies who did damage to American businesses . We were not even allowed to make suits as an example.
So they were wary of corporate power and they were right. The corporation fought for more and more power, and they got it.
The idea that corporations are people is absurd. That started the power of corporations over the country. It never slowed down. Citizens United was the last huge example.
The only thing that actually keeps corporations in check is government regulation, which Trump and the GOP are hellbent on removing. Which, of course, leads us straight to hell.

I don't see those problems are due to capitalism since some of the worse air and water pollution and worker safety problems are in socialist nations. Making a profit or keeping cost within the budget limits have the same consequences.

Those problems aren't limited to capitalism. Communist, not "socialist" nations tend to have similar problems. Large capitalist enterprises, just like large overbearing governments, tend to run roughshod over the interests of the people. That's why government regulation needs to be run by a government that is subservient to the people and not the corporations. Trump and the GOP are subservient to the corporations.

Hello rjhenn,

MAGA is really just code for Make America White Again.

I believe you are correct, sir, and many of those who embrace the slogan are not even aware of it's true meaning, unwilling to admit it even unto themselves.

It explains why, when asked to name the precise time period being referred to, the answers are as scarce as the life-giving rains upon the climate-scorched sands of Africa.

For that was a time when the bountiful prosperity of a jubilantly thriving nation was not exactly shared by all; and the color of one's skin was a distinct determining factor in success.
