For centuries white people have been saying they don't want to live near minorities, and then moving to prove it. In some circles it's acceptable to talk that way. Michelle explained how minorities like her family wanted nothing more than to improve their circumstances and be treated equally, yet when they moved into a "whiter" neighborhood, people acted like they were lepers.

Could be. How to know? Is there some lily black wealthy community that was more convenient that he pressed past to get there?

Bottom line is there isn't a certain way to tease out the wealth from the race to determine whether or not any person was motivated
for one reason or the other unless they admit it. But it is fair to assume the sheer existence of lily white communities of wealth
contain people who are racist and exclude black people who have money. PS there are black people in Marin. It's not a gated community.

Regarding the people you grew up with, why did they move in your opinion? And if you answer it was because they had the money to upgrade their living conditions, that's the argument I'm making for the Obamas.

Look up the phrase "white flight." "White flight is a term that originated in the United States, starting in the 1950s and 1960s, and applied to the large-scale migration of people of various European ancestries from racially mixed urban regions to more racially homogeneous suburban or exurban regions." It's called white flight for a reason, otherwise it would be called something like "moving out of your starter home", "moving to a house in a different school district", "moving somewhere closer to work" or all the other reasons people move.

I don't know enough about your governor to form an opinion. When I Wiki'ed him I learned that he grew up in Marin. It's possible that he moved back because his family and friends are there, but I really can't say.
