Jesus-lovin', gun totin'" kind of guy

You falseoutrage limosine liberals really crack me up. Only yankees are claiming it's racist. Haven't seen one southerner say it yet.
I'd like to see Ford win but he did look like he was forcing the Jesus loving guntoting speal.

I'm not surprised. Most conservatives seem to only acknowledge explicit (if at all) racism when they are presented with it. Its like there is some cognitive inability to recognize just about anything implicit in nature. But alas, as we've seen in the elections on on this board, they aren't the brightest of the bunch so I'm not surprised that they can't make the leap to understand the implications in the commercial. Unless someone was wearing a hood and staged a cross-burning on his lawn and said, "Die n!gger die", their reaction is pretty predictable and I wouldn't expect anything more.

**Unless of course it came from a democrat. Then they become the beacons of tolerance.

Shoulda freed the slaves and then made the Confederate States go it alone. Maybe ship the entire white population to Africa in barrels: let 'em set up shop elsewhere.

Naah they would have found it it too easy to dominate there, ship em to a state with "stan" in the name ;)

Force the slaves to leave what they knew? Or just leave some people to be left without civil rights because it would be just a bit too much trouble?

What exactly are we determining here?

tina nice false outrage
I would say the reverse is true of the limosine liberals that you could find racism where only the farthest leap of analogy would get you there.
I don't arque that one could infer from the commercial, only that the naked bimbo is much more of a sexually promiscous slam than a racial one. But hey I'm not a limosine liberal either.
Hope Ford wins, I think the add was south parkish in quality and will backfire.:clink:

That's my thoughts. It would backfire with me. It wouldn't make me suddenly vote Ford, but I would be far more likely to go Libertarian or another Third Party....

I just can't see how any man liking pretty women while being single has anything to fear.

And I think this post shows a disconnect between people's way of thinking. I have asked several people around here who have seen the add and have not found 1 person, either a Democrat or a Republican, who thinks that it was a racist ad. It's extremely interesting to me, this different way of viewing things that exists in this country. I try to read and understand all I can about it, mainly so I will know where the "other person" is coming from.

I think there's still a segment of the white male population, who still bristle - consciously or subconciously - at the thought of a black man dating sexy white women. And its not just limited to the south, but it definetly exists there.

Interesting. I thought that one of the premises of this thread was that it *is* working. That's certainly the way I read leaningright's assertions.

I thought the ad was effective in showing the contrast of stance on some issues still deemed important in South. Whether you like it or not, it was an effective ad for the time it ran, and with the added attention given to it by the media, it will work well for the republicans.......may not be enough but will work well.

Interesting take.

Now, if the Democrats ran Ads on the old southern segregationist, Strom Thurmond, showing sexy and slutty black women flirting with him after it was revealed that the old segregationist evidently had a taste for "dark meat", and had fathered a black child out of wedlock.....would you consider an ad like that inflammatory, and filled with racial overtones?

It is. However I do think that there will be many put off by it as well. Most of them will be the "Who cares?" crowd, there has to be some in the South too.

Right, cypress, it is not only in the south.

I don't see much difference between rural pennsylvania, or rural ohio, and the south. Once you get outside of Philadephia or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Alabama are pretty much the same in terms of individual racial attitutudes.

You know, you get a catch phrase and you goo with it no matter what.

What outrage? Where have I indicated that I'm outraged. I've clearly stated, I'm not suprised and that I expect that reaction from southern conservatives.

That's a good point. Around here they call PA: Philaphia, Pittsburgh and Alabama in between.

Not any more than I view this one in that fashion. Most of the people I know have no qualms with inter-racial relationships. It is the carousing part that most will find objection to. When I said I thought it was an effective ad, I wasn't in particular referring to the Playboy bunny part but to the other things. I hate to say it but when dealing with people down here the guy in camo talking about Ford thinking he owns too many guns would be an effective thing, no matter the state of affairs in the country, which right now I think a change is needed.
