A couple of years ago, I heard that something about a huge number of elected offices going vacant in the USA, but I really do not remember.

I do know there was a town election that had no votes. The election clerk was so disgusted that she spent a day watching an election center that no one voted in, that even she refused to vote. It turned out that none of the laws of the state or town that it happened in ever conceived of an election without votes.
