...damned if you don't!

Meaningful, appropriate adage. Something to think about right now, because Trump will have to endure it when making some decisions that MUST BE MADE concerning the economy in the coming weeks.

For those of us who consider Trump to be, by far, the worst, most ignorant, least empathetic, classless boor ever to hold the office…

…it is time for us to rein in our contempt and be part of the solution, not of the problem.

The horror we face is two-fold: A very serious health epidemic…and an out-of-control economic meltdown.

Both need management…make no mistake about that. One cannot inappropriately be disregarded to give the other greater benefit.

I hope the decisions that are made to balance the competing interests are primarily made by reasonable, intelligent, thinking individuals…which means I hope Trump and most of his regular advisers relegate much of the decision making to minds less influenced by Trump’s need to be glorified. These are monumental decisions that must be made by experts, not by sycophants.

“Trump’s needs” should not even be a factor in the considerations. The health and well-being of the nation and the people who live in it ARE THE CONSIDERATION.

I, personally, would never want to be responsible for making the kinds of decisions that will be made in the coming weeks. But our elected leaders knew there would be days like this…and part of their jobs will be to take that responsibility.

I wish them the best of luck…and will try to cooperate. I hope everyone does. IT WILL NOT RESOLVE INTO A "THIS IS THE RIGHT THING/THIS IS THE WRONG THING."

Let's all (both sides) keep that in mind when judging...which we all will do.

Lots more to say on this…but…I’d just like to hear what the community thinks at this point.

China is recovering. South Korea is recovering.
They met it face on. Took action. And are now in recovery mode.
We already have the template of how to fight it.
Where's the Problem?

I think that one important point for everyone do bear in mind is that the world is suffering from Convid 19, and therefore no one country is likely to get great competitive advantage - or, at least, I don't think so. That means that the first thing to do is to work to stop the hospitals from being swamped and save as many as possible from dying. Johnson is attempting that over here, and looks likely to put the UK into what would, in normal circumstances, be unpayable debt, but will that matter, if everyone else is in the same case? It seems the immediate and more-or-less logical policy to make saving lives the first priority, and hope someone comes up with a cure reasonably soon. The question is whether we are going to pay people to sit about at home, and how long will they stick it? We hear unhopeful things about teenage reactions, but that may just be newspaper sensationalism. Whatever happens, previous wisdom doesn't seem very applicable, does it?

Well said. I firmly believe Trump want's what is best for the country and is prepared to make the tough decisions. I only hope he listens to the advice of the experts. We all know the economy cannot remain shuttered so it will be a tradeoff between public health and the economy.

Trump, has dismissed any competent advisors and replaced them with unqualified lackeys, that will dance to what ever tune that Trump dictates, so I find it hard to have any confidence in Trump to make such important decisions.

You are far more optimistic about the Bloated Bloviator than the rest of us. TRE45ON wants what is good for the country -- yes -- but paramount to that is his desires for his own fanny, fortune, fame, and family (in that order). If rescuing the economy rescues his personal finances I'm fine with that. I just cannot see him as the leader we need now. As Trumpet points out, Trump surrounds himself with yes-men/women. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else. He listens way too much to Fox talking heads and far too little to people who actually know shit. His decisions so far -- both with COVID and prior to that -- show a history of self-interest above that of national interest. Above all he wants to be re-elected. He will literally do and say *anything* to make that happen. If that forces him to finally take off his Pampers and put on some real man pants to get it done, good.

That has ALWAYS been the problem with tRump. When you get a pathological lying egomaniac that refers to himself as a "Stable Genius"
-who ALWAYS thinks that he is the smartest person in the room and that rarely listens to others - making decisions, screwups usually come first. Simply put, tRump dropped the ball with the CV.

The same tRump that wanted to put his private pilot as head of the FAA and to appoint a federal judge that had never tried a case. tRumps solodecisions are mostly psychotic.

 NEVER going to happen with the Party of the Jackass and the loony left. ;)

I am always amused by the lie filled, low IQ moron narrative that Trump doesn't care about anyone but himself. Yet, the man is the FIRST, and most likely, ONLY president to never take a salary and donate it to charity every year.

Leftists are too stupid, arrogant, full of themselves and filled with hate and rage to comprehend the OBVIOUS. ;)

Frank, in order to resolve this serious economical problem, it will take global coordination, and I certainly do not feel that Trump has got the wisdom or the clout to be able to achieve this.
