Crowds flock to reopened Jacksonville beaches as Florida hits record coronavirus case

Hello Dutch Uncle,
What can they really do for you in the hospital?

They have no treatment. All they can do is stick a ventilator down your throat and extend the agony. Not a good way to go. Might be better to just let the thing take it's course at home. I'm sure a lot of people are already doing that (and not being counted.)

The ventilator and pain killers. I have neither at home. Why do you think they are so concerned about going over a certain number of infected Americans? Because they can only treat a certain number. Those ventilators save lives.

I don't know how many are dying at home. I'm sure somewhere someone is counting up the numbers of dead elderly and calculating whether or not it is above or below the average.

We should have planned the shut down better instead of denials followed by 'This came out of nowhere!' (~rolling eyes~)

Europe saved the jobs, just had government begin doling out checks. They will be able to turn things back on far more easily.
Hindsight is always 20/20. When this is all over and we're 5-10 years from the Trump administration, competent leaders and researchers will go over the data and see what worked, what didn't, who did better, who did worse and what we should do in preparation for next time. It's the way of human civilization; two steps forward, one step back.

Hello Micawber,

I don't know. I've heard indicators that perhaps most of the people who go on ventilators never make it. Apparently it messes with your body and you sort of forget how to breathe on your own. Have heard that once it starts, very difficult to get off it.

People that are on them are sinking, the vent isn't an anchor, it's a life raft. Many on life rafts don't make it to shore.
My info was from a doctor on TV asserting that in his hospital on CNN that when they can get you on a vent, you have a good chance.
This has to be a knowable stat. How many people on vents survive, how many die, compared to how many people required one and it was
not available, same ratio. If I'm gasping I use that last breath to scream for a vent. I bet you'd do likewise.

same old tired arguments what do we do with this becomes endemic throw away our economy every year?
Print 8 trillion in funny money every year?

Translation: Money is worth more than people. Let the weak and elderly die. Let me get back to work, God dammit!

Hopefully a cure, vaccine or other mitigating factor will be found. That minimizes the loss of Americans lives while also protecting your precious profit margin.

They don't seem to be making that info public.

Not a good sign.

There are few medicines for a virus, none this one. All a hospital can do is keep you alive long enough that their body will fight it off and you can survive. Hospitals are fighting symptoms like fevers with aspirin. Corona fills your lungs with mucous and liquids. Ventilators help clear them so you can stay alive and fight it off.
The only real help is a vaccine, which is way in the future. The rest are treating symptoms. Hospitals are keeping you alive until your own body wins .

Makes you wonder why people on their last legs are not allowed to agree to experimental drugs. If it looks like they are going to die anyway and they agree, what would be the problem?

The good news is that our own bodies eventually or easily win as long as you can keep oxygenated blood long enough.

Post covid plasma donations seem warranted, in fact should be mandated. Uncle Sam wants your blood! Would make a nice posetr

Hello domer76,

Well of course all of that is true, no doubt. But just because there are no rules here doesn't mean people are under any mandate to act nasty to one another. People secretly yearn to see more intellect here. We could have more interesting conversations if we had more minds participating here. The rudeness and low level blurting runs off a lot of people or prevents them from wanting to take part. More tolerance = more participation = more widely varied comments.

It would be really cool if more people self-moderated.

That would raise the decorum of the forum.

Are you really that easily set off by BS, or is the snappy come-back just habit?

Habits can be changed; but it takes will power...

Why don't you focus more on making a good point instead of being crude?

Anybody can be crude. It takes a more measured mind to show more class than that.

I've seen you go either way.

Sorry, I don’t tolerate liars, bullshitters and the willfully ignorant very well.

“Lying piece of shit” carries a little more oomph than “poo poo head fibber”, don’t you think?

Call a spade a spade, Politalker.

There are obviously no mirrors in your house.

Hello Bill,

It's all academic for us.

Doesn't matter what we think.

What's done is done.

Time will tell the outcome.

I can't see arguing about it. These posters who take everything so seriously are a little too tightly wound if you ask me.

We'll find out soon enough how this works out in Jacksonville. All we have to do is be patient.

I wonder if they do have an increase in cases, but it's not a lot, will that be deemed acceptable?

We ARE going to find out...and I doubt it will be restricted to Jacksonville. I suspect there will be many premature openings. I hope they are successful...that none or very little increase in new cases and in deaths occur.

We'll see.

Hello Arks&sparka,

We should have planned the shut down better instead of denials followed by 'This came out of nowhere!' (~rolling eyes~)

Yeah! The "This came out of nowhere"...came out of...the same guy who once said, "Nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated."

Coronavirus is bad enough to deal with...

...but coronavirus with Trump as president is like fighting the Civil War, World War I and World War II all at the same time.

It is a "perfect storm" scenario. A relentless, invisible enemy...and a moron leading the fight.

I agree it's both and at once medical and political/socio economic decisions we are discussing. That's why we are quarreling over it. Not cut and dried. But we are really only
a couple months in and those infections are still going up. To manage the ill through the healthcare system still requires several months more
extreme diligence from the general citizenry. It's April 21 2020 and thousands are dying every day, and Trump is tweeting free America from
the governors he abdicated his power to for decision making. Say what you may about the beginning being Chinese origin, but it is here now,
and everything he does now, and doesn't do now and going forward, he owns. That includes punting to the states. Not every state has the
wherewithal as California to end run this potus and requisition everything it needs.

Yeah there is an element of the people that will criticize everything he does no matter what, so I tend to write those idiots off as irrational. I have my criticisms but I'm never allowed to talk about them because there are the buzzards that rant about him being a Russian plant or King of the lizard people or some moronic bullshit like that.

So if you want to rant and rave about how Trump told 60,000 lies or some other conspiracy theory you can do so to def ears. I've heard all of that nonsense already.

Yes we shouldn't have listened to the WHO and they should be discredited. But I'm willing to bet you are going to argue against that. They were the ones saying it wasn't going to be a big deal. If we wrote them off, had we had the foresight to know they were a Chinese shill we probably would have been more prepared. You can't fault political figures for listening to what was considered an expert. Especially if such political figures went against it and banned travel from China they would have been called racist and Russian spies and face supreme Court and/or Congressional obstruction.

Hind sight is 20/20. We should have halted any travel from China and to hell with the tards that scream racism. We should have never become dependant on them. We shouldn't have allowed them to buy ports here.

I can think of thousands of things we shouldn't have done and I can think of hundreds of thousands of people to blame.
Europe saved the jobs, just had government begin doling out checks. They will be able to turn things back on far more easily.
Giving out funny money just devalues the money you have it doesn't give you any more wealth those repercussions will be seen in a few years when young people not only won't be able to afford apartments and cars.

Have you ever wondered why a 1 bedroom in the slums are over a thousand dollars a month now?

Just give money to the people. Print more and devalue it more.

Every wonder how Germany could have elected something as awful as the Nazi party? It's exactly this sort of thing.

Translation: Money is worth more than people. Let the weak and elderly die. Let me get back to work, God dammit!
Beats the idea that old people living a few more years is more valuable than the future. Fuck this stupid kids. Let's inflate the currency more and Bitch about them loving in their parents basement into their thirties and not understand that apartments cost 1500 a month and even if you worked two full time jobs at minimum wage it wouldn't be enough.

Why are so many people economically illiterate?

Do you know why the weak and old are living longer now? It's not because we shut down every time there is a new virus. It's because of our economy.

And what about the hundreds of thousands of people that are financially ruined in a depreciating economy. Families who's houses are going to be foreclosed on? Money troubles are the primary reason for divorce. Just what we need more children growing up in broken homes.

Yeah I think the well being if the country and it's people in the future is far far far more important than an 86 year old living a few more months.
Hopefully a cure, vaccine or other mitigating factor will be found. That minimizes the loss of Americans lives while also protecting your precious profit margin.
The lives lost and destroyed in the wake of this man made disaster they can go fuck off.

Life's a bitch, then you die. It's not like that saying hasn't been around for over 35 years. You can either bitch about it or just enjoy the ride.

Hello Frank,

We'll see.

I think it will be like 1918, especially with this president.

There will be a cave on opening up too soon, followed by a second peak.
