Crowds flock to reopened Jacksonville beaches as Florida hits record coronavirus case

The numbers for Jacksonville, and all of Florida, for that matter, are improving.

Oh, they are still rising, but at a steadily lower rate over time.

I am beginning to think it was OK for Jacksonville to open the beaches for limited recreation. Another week or so and we will know for sure.

Jacksonville:

4-29

Positive Residents ... 980

Hospitalizations ...106

Deaths ... 20

Positive Non-Residents ... 27

Active Cases ... 1007

New Cases ... 11

It is the declining New Cases figure which is the most encouraging.

Just like w/ the Spanish flu, aka the Kansas flu that Americans brought to Europe...

Ppl stayed in until it was to much. Enjoyed their summer, into the "Indian Summer", & then all hell broke loose....

I hope that is not what will happen again in Oct but that is really were I am focusing on...

The goal was flattening the curve~that most ppl are going to be exposed @ some point is a given.......

For many small businesses it is already to late= 10's of millions now unemployed, businesses gone forever...

Hopefully they don't blame it all on trump for a few mishandlings & total lack of concern for the citizens, he needed to get reelected as gawd has planned

Florida had only 347 New Cases today.

That's the lowest number of daily New Cases in a month.

That makes Florida 20th in New Cases, trailing behind 19 other States.

The top 20 in New Cases for today 4-29-20:

New York ... +4,708
New Jersey ... +2,408
California ... +2,402
Illinois ... +2,253
Massachusetts ... +1963
Texas ... +1,395
Michigan .. +1,137
Georgia ... +797
Maryland ... +736
Pennsylvania ... +712
Virginia ... +622
Indiana ... +594
Ohio ... +534
Iowa ... +467
Minnesota ... +463
Connecticut ... +455
Colorado ... +442
North Carolina ... +442
Nebraska ... +410
Louisiana ... +374
Florida ... +347

Florida is 7th in Active Cases with 31,289.

Whatever Florida is doing is having better results than some other States.

Lots of people from New York go down there.

Hello Bill,

Lots of people from New York go down there.

Miami is a very large international destination. From there Germans go to Naples, party goers go to Key West and everybody goes to Orlando for DisneyWorld.

I don't fault New Yorkers or even the Chinese people. I'm holding my reservations on the Chinese government.

Let the cleansing of the imbeciles commence

Don't forget to run to your churches tomorrow

Mayor Lenny Curry reopened beaches and parks in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday, after Governor Ron DeSantis gave the green light for them to reopen, despite the state hitting a record number of coronavirus cases. When they opened at 5 p.m., crowds flooded the area, ignoring social distancing warnings.

Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach are now open from 6-11 a.m. and 5-8 p.m. for "essential activities." They are closed during all other times.

More than 25,000 people in Florida have been infected with COVID-19, and schools, business and public events are all closed or canceled to try to slow its spread, according to the state Department of Health.

The difference between me and good people of the earth is they love life and I don't. :)

Hello Bill,

Of course not.

Florida has international airports and 'spring break.' This year it was more like 'spring transmission.'

Agreed. The revelation that the virus came to the US via Europe is interesting, but not surprising. It's a global economy and with that comes global interactions of people. Any disease in one modern country will quickly find its way to other modern countries.

It was until Desantis stopped the NY flights, and put state troopers on I-95

All for show. Someone just goes to NJ and flies from there or flies to Savannah and drives down. Americans have freedom of movement in our nation. This isn't fucking Euro or some Third World Shithole....although Miami kinda looks like one.

no it wasn't "all for show".why the hell do you just make shit up?

The flights were cancelled, and cars were stopped and names taken while at the same time NYC was on quarantine.
Could there have been a few that drove to NJ and took a flight? sure, but the daily flights were cancelled

Miami is OK -looking better then it used to -but the suburbs like Coral Gables and Coconut Grove are simply beautiful place

YAAAAAAY!!!!!!! Miami marina boat ramps are OPEN!!!! Long lines were forming since last
night to get their boats out until the ramp area reached its limit at Pelican Harbor.

It was for show since it's like trying to stop a flood with a sieve. Jacksonville businessman flies to Atlanta for a meeting with NY, Chinese, and Euro businesspeople. Get's infected, comes home and infects everyone he knows for a week or two before he starts presenting symptoms. They, in turn, infect others.

Without a cure or vaccine, the best way to handle this virus is like the Swedes: go for herd immunity by operating business as usual. Man up and git'r'done. Stop being pussies.

it's a numbers game. the few stray travelers don't equate to daily flights
