George Washington was a slave owner

When Washington's father Augustine died in 1743, George Washington became a slave owner at the age of eleven. In his will, Augustine left his son the 280 acre family farm near Fredericksburg, Virginia. In addition, Washington was willed ten slaves.

So what is the point in bring it up?

Well because Blacks would like to remove his statue, pictures, and change the dollar bill. Not that I really care.

What is your opinion?

So?

The OP offers a logical fallacy in the form of an Historian's Fallacy.

That is the OP assumes that today's morals, standards, thinking, etc., are and would be applied to the distant past and people making decisions and taking actions then.

Removing all traces of past persons for some decision they made at the time that is no longer considered correct, moral, or otherwise in vogue is idiotic. It is a combination of historical revisionism and attempting to write people out of history in the sort of way described in Orwell's 1984. Better we see all the warts and mistakes of the past in the light of day than let them be repeated because we forgot them.

In Washington's case, his ownership of slaves is significantly minor to his contributions to making the United States happen as a nation. You might remember, that Washington, and other top revolutionary war leaders often gave slaves who chose to fight in their army their freedom in exchange for their participation. So, Washington was not the narrow-minded bigot of slavery that say, Nathan Bedford Forrest in the Civil War was. Writing Washington out of American history is nothing short of moronic.

ANYONE with a bit of money and power owned slaves in those days. It was VERY common.

They would? Why don’t you go ahead and prove that claim? We’ll wait.

That’s it? Your proof that blacks want GW removed from everything?

:rofl2:

What a fucking clown.

Domer, my buddy, it's great to see you on these threads. I haven't seen you on here that much recently, and was afraid that you had POSSIBLY succumbed to the Wu Flu. I'm so glad to see that you obviously DIDN'T! My sister and I, and our two kitties, are doing fine here in the wonderful, nearly crime-free, Republican mayor-led sleepy little town of Valparaiso, Indiana. Nearly all businesses have lifted lock down, and are open for INSIDE visit. I'm REALLY glad that our local Barnes and Nobel store lifted their lock down about a week ago. How sweet it is!

ROTFLFMAO!!! So you live in a hick town in Indiana with your sister and two cats. Priceless. No wonder you plan on being on here every second of every day. George Washington, like Robert E. Lee, was a traitor to his country. But in Washington's case, that country isn't the US. Get it?
