I'm not sure I want any rules about statues. People want them up, erect them. People want them down, remove them.
Political might decides the jump ball cases.
Maybe have defaced inscriptions and insert, "this despicable traitor who lost in a war against America is now a hero to the most ignorant racist scum in America today."

The statue is a part of history, or Lee?
The statue's role in history is the further suppression and intimidation of black people post-Civil War.
Lee's role in history is the loser of the war.
How do the statues teach Lee's role in history?
Comparing MLK to Lee is peak Conservatism.

How is MLK a loser? Because he was murdered? How is that the same as Lee losing a war?
So then the statue didn't teach you any history, then.

The only thing with ANY intelligence or logic you have posted today on this thread. Nicely done.
Both represent the History of The Us... It can't be dismissed. It can't be covered up... It happened. Imo, the purpose of history(good or bad) is to not repeat the things people have done but to learn from their mistakes and make actions better.
Enjoy it while it lasts. Such a moment only comes along semi-annually.

Shame you can't be honest. You are squarely in the "it's a scared relic because it is in statue form, nobody can ever remove them" camp.
Some good cause has been shown not to venerate these particular individuals with statues. I don't believe that argument has been successfully met.
Applying my notion with which you claim to agree, the case for removal is greater than the case for keeping them up.

Plenty of logic there, your being offended gives validation.
You've literally answered your own question here. If I say 2 + 2 = 5, and you claim that it's actually 4, and I respond by punching you in the face and winning a physical fight, according to you, that makes you a "loser" not worthy of any kind of recognition for any part of your life, and anyone who TRIES to recognize you for any part of your life must be automatically giving you a participation trophy. MLK and Robert E. Lee are both "losers" not worthy of any acknowledgement, accoding to your logic.
Um...again, no one's arguing that, moron.

99 percent of right wing deplorables who claim they are only acting in defense of protecting historical knowledge, have never actually even read a book about Robert E Lee, have never taken a college level course on the Confereracy, and have thus shown through their actions this is not really about honoring historical education and knowledge.
As for me, I have video classes about Robert E Lee, the history of the American South, the history of the Civil War on my streaming video watch list -- because I actually believe studying the Confereracy and the Confederate leadership is important to reflect on, and holds lessons for the erudite person.
