In reality when there is a statue people who go by it often don't even notice it let alone think about what it depicts. It's like me and the confederate flag, I have been around them all my life and all they remind me of when I see one is the south. Slavery doesn't even enter the picture. But then I'm not black so I see things differently.

Then they don't teach history, so there's no need for them to be waved in public or adorn public places. This is you admitting that you don't get any history from these things.

Why would any southerners feel that way unless they identify with the statues because they share the same values as the subjects of those statues?

So you're admitting that Southerners feel we are sticking it to them by tearing down monuments to white supremacists and traitors?

The statues are actually a virtue signal for racists and white supremacists; that's why they were built and that's why you are opposed to tearing them down.

Otherwise, what is their "historical" value? Obviously none if you think they were Americans when they fought for the Confederacy.
