Colonialism ?

There’s not a thing I can say that would convince you I’m not a racist lol.

If the shoe fits...

You made an argument that these statues teach history, but couldn't remember that Confederates weren't Americans. So the statue serves another purpose, then. What is that purpose?

Hello Darth Omar,

How is anything being 'stuck to' anybody?

You see it in some of the post titles. ‘Another one comes down!!’ Or something similar.

It’s reflective of the attitude of many white liberals. They don’t care anymore about confederate statues than they do black lives. They despise southerners and take delight in ‘sticking it to them’ whenever possible.

White Southerners are all racist bigots anyway, right?

We've asked you over and over what the historical significance is of these statues, and you have repeatedly shown that you don't learn any history from them.

So the statues must serve another purpose. What is that purpose?

That's only the case if the Southerners identify with the values of the subjects of those statues.

You're arguing that Southerners are racists and traitors? You seem to think that's what Southerners are.

White Southerners are all racist bigots anyway, right?

Just the ones who identify with people like Robert E. Lee and Nathaniel Forrest.

The statues are just kind of ‘there’ lol.

Not that it happens often but they *absolutely can* be used as teaching tools about slavery, the civil war and etc.

‘Robert Lee was so-so about slavery, but he had allegiance to south etc etc’

I actually reject your premise. Well, I actually just rejected it.

No, you didn't.

What you said was that these statues just exist, like they magically formed overnight, then when you say they *can* be used to "teach history", they obviously don't since Conservatives on THIS VERY THREAD still thought that Confederates were Americans.

The only true reason for these statues was one you accidentally revealed earlier in this thread; trolling.

They absolutely can be used to teach about the civil war—and all its warts.

Our little back and forth [btw, is really necessary to reply five times to each one of my posts?] is kind of instructional in that regard. You and virtually all wokies have a narrow view of history.

Civil war—->boom, slavery. That’s the beginning and the end of it. All sense of historical nuance goes out the window. Robert Lee isn’t allowed to be an interesting character [and a product of his times] in his own right. Lee fought for the south so Lee’s monument has no place on public property. End of discussion.

In fact, General Lee is no better than Hitler and they don’t have statues of Hitler in Germany.

Anyone who would make such a comparison doesn’t know their historical ass from a hole in the ground and it’s said all the time. And that’s a big problem with this business. Non-confederate monuments are being pulled down or defaced [as predicted] by historically illiterate morons in their self-righteous mission to ‘cleanse’ the public square of any historical figure even tangentially tied to slavery or colonialism or anything else THEY don’t like.

And they aren’t finished yet.

So clearly these statues didn't help you learn any history because that is exactly what the Civil War was about, why it was fought, and why the South lost it.

Nothing more needs to be said. There's no polishing that turd.

The real reason you hate to see Confederate monuments go down is because you identify with the subjects of those monuments. That's it. There's no other reason.

If you didn't identify with those traitors and racists, you wouldn't give a shit if statues of them were torn down.

But you do give a shit. So you have something at stake here. What's at stake for you is the glorification of abhorrent loser values. If those statues are gone, so goes any glorifying of the people whose values you share, leaving you with nothing because you have nothing in common with real American heroes.

OK, you're making my case for me, so....thanks?

Not true.

That's the old way. We are finally moving beyond that. This is part of how we do it as a nation. The people who put those statues up are gone. The people who are here now are looking at them and saying that's not who we are.

This is part of how we break the cross-generational loop. The confederate statues have to come down. Offensive stuff has to come down. It's not a big deal. It's not hurting anybody to redecorate the place.

The new way is we want a country that is not offensive to anybody. We want attitudes to change.

The only thing we want curtailed is hatred. Let's create a diverse nation where everybody is valued and there is no hatred. It's a good goal.

Why is that a bad thing? Maybe those statues should come down. Maybe they should be replaced with real American heroes, not traitors, slaveholders, and racists. What's the problem? Yeah, tear 'em all down. I guarantee you people will still remember Washington was our first President if his monument is replaced with one of Dolly Parton or MLK or Tom Hanks.

Also, being offended at having your offensive statues removed isn't something of offense.

Whining that you are offended because you cannot offend anyone is small dick energy.
