That is both the joy and the curse of being an auntie and not a parent, I think. My niece used to blow kisses when she was caught doing something wrong. My sister probably wanted to flay me for laughing but I couldn't help it.

Definitely.

Oh no, please tell me people are not going with the "don't let them take our freedoms" bullshit on this one???

Ok folks, when you drive a car on the PUBLIC roads, there are all sorts of rule.

Is requiring you stay below the posted speed limit an infringement of your freedoms?

Is requiring that you be licenced an infringement of your freedoms?

Is requiring that your vehicle have headlights an infringement of your freedoms?

Is requiring a bumper on your vehicle an infringement of your freedoms?

Is requiring that you not drive drunk an infringement of your freedoms?

The simple fact is, if you drive on private property you can do whatever you want. But when you use public roads, you have to abide by the rules.

Rubbernecking is the top distraction. But that cannot be regulated.

Changing music is another top distraction. Ban the music if it will save lives.

The same people who are complaining about an infringement of their freedoms concerning cell phones were the ones claiming seatbelt laws were an infringement of your freedoms.

The problem is, these laws are to protect others FROM you. And considering the common speeds of travel these days, we are not talking about fender-benders.

Just a few years ago none of us had cell phones (or at least very, very few). Now they are so critical to our lives that we demand that others risk their lives so that you can talk on the phone???

Bullshit. Ban cell phone use while driving. First 3 to 5 offenses make it a graduating scale of fines, after that you lose your licence.
