Obama: Al-Qaeda remains 'number one threat' to US

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President-elect Barack Obama said Wednesday that Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden remain the "number one threat" to US security, after a new voice recording emerged from the terror group's leader.

"Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda are our number one threat when it comes to American security," Obama told reporters, after the recording warned the president-elect of new fronts in bin Laden's self-styled holy war against Western interests.

"We're going to do everything in our power to make sure that they cannot create safe havens that can attack Americans. That's the bottom line," Obama added.

How the hell do the NIE's (which state that terrorism is a bigger threat to the US now than before Iraq) conflict with what Obama said?

The NIE's have actually concluded that Al Qaeda remains in a great position to attack the West, and are just as strong as they were before Iraq.

notice obama said this AFTER a threat, not some report...but go ahead and hang national security on a report versus actual threats from the terrorists....oh wait, threats are nothign, they are just terrorists ....DUH

obama, AFTER, getting the threat....said AQ is our number one threat...do you understand that a threat can be carried through and that actionable intelligence is not perfect...it is you who are hanging your national security hat on stats, irrelevencies and other nonsensical details...

Every intelligence we have says that Al Qaeda is just as strong & well-positioned to attack the U.S. as they were in 2001, and that Iraq has been an incredible recruiting tool for them & other terrorist organizations.

In Yurtle the Turtle land, that's "keeping us safe."
