Why this will backfire on Israel

Last night I heard on the news that the two Arab parties in Israel are not going to be allowed to participate in this round of elections because they "support terrorism" even though they are the same party that has run in numerous elections before. They only hold three seats in the Knesset but that will be reduced to zero in this election. Hmmm what other country had these sort of laws that excluded people of certain ethnicities from political office? I wonder if the Israeli government is aware that this happened once before? I guess all I can really ask is "et tu Israel?"

It's very disheartening Soc. In 2006 there was not this level of support, within Israel's population, for the Lebanon war. And now to see them resorting to this.

This cannot be defended, and they're making themselves into targets.

Cawacko, do you think the pictures of dead children are a PR stunt? What do you think we should do with pictures of dead children? Do you believe they should be hidden? Like our soldiers' bodies are? And if so, what do you call that?
I think the placement of the weapons that Israel is after is set to create the more of those pictures if Israel goes after what they say they are.

Yes, I believe one of Hamas strategies is to show Isreal in the worst light possible to the rest of the world and the pictures of injured or dead Palistinian children helps accomplish that. It's obviously up to those who publish to decide what they want to show.

I see. And you don't feel that the fact that they're are hundreds of dead children is what puts Israel in the worst possible light?

Not being sarcastic, I seriously don't understand how a conservative brain works. Can't even get my mind around this.

The ONLY way to go after weapons placed in public areas is to use ground troops to assault them. But they need to do more to reduce civilian deaths. I do not believe Israel is at all concerned about bombing schools and killing non-combatants. Just one less Palestinian.

hell if we were in Israeli and our neighbors were lobbing missiles and suicide bombing us and saying they want to destroy our country we would prob invade every neighbor and then nuke mecca. I think the jews are very restrained.

I didn't realize this was strictly a conservative vs. liberal issue? I was under the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that there were liberals that supported Isreal.

I think this is the reason America is so widely respected amongst her peers in the world community.

What do you mean by support Israel? Does this mean, to you, that one must support Israel's murdering of children, and coverup the pictures? Is this anything like; if you support america you have to support george bush and george bush's wars?

Israel is not a democracy.

Well, isn't that what you are suggesting you think would be the right thing to do? Or did I misunderstand something about "Yes"?

I've not said anything about covering up. All I said is Hamas wants to send out the pictures of injured or dead Palistinian children to the world. That is part of its campaign.

I see, I must have got the wrong impression from what you wrote, I'm sure it was my mistake.

Do you think that the Palestinians should refuse to release pictures of their civilian dead? Did it ever occur that with organizations such as the red cross publically stating that they are appalled at what condition they are finding children in Gaza in, that maybe Israel bears some responsibility in this besmirching of their reputation?
