WE ARE AT WAR and moderates could lose this election AGAIN

Thanks for the welcome. I haven't looked around enough to form an opinion yet, but I have high hopes.

Yes, most older people are by definition the enemies of progressivism. It doesn't help that older people tend to be much more politically active than younger people. They control the political parties and keep reelecting incumbants because well, old dogs and new tricks. Add to that the influence of money and I think the American political system is utterly broken.
Being from the Bay Area this statement makes me laugh because there is a lot of truth in it. Look at Berkeley, home of the Free Speech Movement in the '60's and many radicals and they were going to change the world and upend the system etc. Today they may still be progressive in some/many ways but also live very comfortably in their million dollar plus homes and thus are big time NIMBYs and fight new development and thus drive out many of the young artists and creative types who can no longer afford to live here. Being old makes you care a lot more your property values and stock portfolio to support your retirement than being 20 years old owning nothing and having no money in your pocket.

Based on my life experiences, this is a bit naive... Again, just mine. A cop knows when his arrest is clean
or pretext, and he also knows he may not charge you. But he can damn sure ruin your night and have you calling bail bondsmen
whenever the fuck he wants. I kneel and comply, kiss the ring, and with luck nothing becomes of my misdeeds.
I go all 4th amendment vocally? I'm fucked.

There have been instances when I just rolled my eyes and did whatever some prick cop told me to do without cause because I just needed to catch up to my friends and didn't want to be beaten to death in public, but that's the point. They shouldn't be able to act that way. The only reason they're being held accountable for the first time in American history (sometimes) is because every citizen has a camera in her pocket now. They were never given the right to terrorize us. They were never given the right to abuse the authority we let them have and abuse the people they're supposed to serve. They exceeded their social contract. They recruited racists and punks with chips on their shoulders and small dick syndrome. They gave those people guns and set them loose on our streets. They corrupted the culture of law enforcement so that bad actors were never held accountable for unspeakable crimes and good actors were forced to be silent. Compliance should be voluntary and just, not just the only way to avoid being murdered.

It is possible to accumulate wealth without abandoning all youthful ideals. The question is how much wealth is enough? If a home in SF appreciates 300% in ten years in a neighborhood that includes young, creative renters who don't maintain the yard perfectly, is that worse than having the same home appreciate 400% in the same ten years by displacing the renters and building a fence with a gate around the block? I think for most Americans there is never enough material wealth. A higher return over a shorter period will almost always be most people's choice, even at the expense of gentrifying historical neighborhoods, spending more time working than living, and abandoning ideals that do not have to be incompatible with aging.

There was a story from a couple of years ago that got a lot of local attention. This was during the time when Trump was trying to ban immigration from certain Muslim countries. Not surprisingly it didn't get a lot of support in the Bay Area and a Berkeley woman had an 'Immigrants Welcome Here' sign in her yard. This same woman was later seen speaking at a Berkeley Planning Commission meeting fighting against a new multi-family development right on the BART line. (offered much need housing next to public transportation)

It got attention because it was such the Bay Area, essentially I'm for immigration but don't want you Mr. or Mrs. Immigrant (or anyone else) living near me and changing my neighborhood.

Now of course NIMBYism isn't exclusive to the Bay Area by any means. But having lived here so long I've seen it up close and personal for quite awhile.

Being 20 with nothing and being 60 with a lot is not a SF thing.

Not sure what video you were watching, but CLEARLY in THIS video the man was compliant right up to the moment when they marched him to the car when they pushed him down started violently beating him,

Not sure how to respond to anything else you’ve said if you can’t even see what is so obvious right in front of your face. He was handcuffed. What threat did he pose to three burly cops who all outweighed him?

People like that are going to defend, rationalize, and minimize bad police behavior no matter how bad it is. They will always find a way of saying that the victim deserved to die or be paralyzed or be injured. The poster you responded to, for example, refuses to believe what's been reported: that Arrington was reported for walking on the wrong side of the street. He completely ignores what video footage proves and then fabricates a story that never happened to justify what any normal person considers abuse of police force. He even goes so pathetically far as to say that the police didn't beat Arrington "very hard."

Democrats are the party of infanticide, socialism, government control, smashing Free Speech rights, giving free stuff to illegal aliens, and now they are the party of mobs in the streets burning and destroying cities. See the burning cities and torn down statues, and you see the democrat party world. Mobs.

Republicans are the party of Traditional Values, Liberty and freedom. Donald Trump gave us the lowest unemployment rates since John F Kennedy until the virus hit, and now Democrats are trying to keep the virus going because they are so evil they are happy to destroy the economy simply to defeat Trump. That’s right. Masks and continued shutdowns are a joke, based totally on fear. There is a 0.04 death rate for Corona. People have more chance of dying from the Flu.

When did you stop thinking for yourself? Is it that much easier to parrot Fox News than to have an original thought?

:) Thanks. I'll give it some practice.
(I am used to just typing the person's Username and then C&P the portion of text I want to reply to)

OK. I'm going to 'Wrap Quote Tags' around your "If you want to practice, just put" ... and then click 'Post Quick Reply'.

You're not exactly a computer guy, are you? Have you made use of email yet? It's amazing! You don't even need a stamp.

I spend a lot of time in SF. I didn't know that story you just told, but it doesn't surprise me. I live mostly in NYC and the Denver area, so believe me, I have seen the phenomenon you're describing up close and personal.

Years ago, the Denver airport had to be moved out of the city for a variety of reasons. When deciding where to build DIA, no one wanted it anywhere near their homes. So the various governments dropped it in the middle of a field more than thirty minutes away from Denver. Over the past twenty years, that field has been developed into mile after mile of homes, hotels, restaurants, etc. People who literally built to the airport have started complaining about the noise and other impacts of the airport. The people who forced the airport out of the city to protect their own property values complain about the traffic and length of time it takes to get to DIA now. Somewhere along the line the vast majority of us forget what it means to be self interested and instead just become selfish. What's worse than being selfish is being, in the case of the pro-immigrant/anti-multi-family housing woman and the airport protesters, is being selfish and hypocritical.

White Naked triple-murder suspect runs from cops and attacks bystander, Virginia police say

.... and the cop runs away

He even attacks an innocent church worker ... no shots fired

100 COPS RESPONDED, 9 LOCAL SCHOOLS LOCKED DOWN .. NO SHOTS FIRED

FINALLY APPREHENDED BY A POLICE DOG .. WHO DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS WHITE

Nothing I said implies being exclusive to the Bay Area or Berkeley. I offered it as an example. However living in California you should know the example well.

Yes. I just don't need to disparage where I live every day as you seem to. I wonder how many dirty hippies from the summer of love
are still alive, let alone in mansions in the Berkeley Hills. Man I could go for a slice of Zachary's pizza right about now.

Can you smell the smoke from the fires?

He knows it very well. He is an unabashed self described NIMBY. I'm sure you've seen his posts to that effect.

It's got a cool hotel attached to the airport. Hate flying over the Rockies in the snow though. So happy when I drop over them on the east side.
You have a nice subway that goes all the way downtown for that 30 min deal.

Do you think that just maybe possibly he was crazy??? At least the police knew he didn't have a weapon.

Do you think that would have made any difference if he was black?

Would my posting cops murdering black people with mental illness make any difference to you?

Of course it wouldn't. You'll just reach for another excuse.

Absolutely, which is why I waste little to no time talking to it
