Alabama

Georgia ain't Alabama, else I wouldn't be here. There is no Atlanta equivilent in Alabama.

Oh yeah .. I guess there is one other good thing about Alabama .. it ain't Mississippi.

still, the states on the whole are pretty much the same... face it... YOU are Alabama and Mississippi, just as much as you are GA. Deal with it.

;)

Come on Grind, didn't you used to call where you live Taxachusetts?
No matter where you live, you can talk to smart people on the net anytime you want and level of intelligence around you doesn't affect your style or standard of living, your rights or freedoms. Taxes, crime and regulations do though.
I don't really care where I live so long as I stay in the countryside.

mass is corrupt we have politicians left and right getting indicted. Most people in the nation really don't understand how corrupt mass politics are. And yes we tax the shit out of everything, we pay some of our toll workers 60 grand a year. They get paid 60 grand a year to take change from passing motorirsts.

This is a problem I have had reconciling for a long time. Most of the places I like are liberal areas. San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New york. I think it's the whole elite, intelligence thing. Liberals are also more artsy and creative and I think that contributes to our cities.

alabama is ranked 45th out of 50 in the smartest state ranking.

Naturally most northeastern states are at the top.

Maybe you retards need to start talking about real science in schools rather than how the earth is 6000 years old.

You just have to love the criteria used to determine who is "smart"...

Someone please explain how the bolded have anything to do with intelligence of the state?

Also... the bulk of the above is a measure of PUBLIC K-12. What about college education? GED's? (added for toppy) Vocational Schools etc...?

Sorry my friend, but Alabama and Mississippi are the absolute pits.

I've been through there, although I refuse to even drive through Miss. anymore and I'll travel hundreds of miles out of my way to avoid even looking at the horrid looking state. Alabama ain't much better.

Old pick-up trucks, confederate flags, sorry ass looking towns/cities, and country music.

If you like that kind of thing .. cool .. but I'd rather swim with sharks than spend a day in Alabama.

A brother driving a Mercedes in Alabama is drama waiting to happen .. especially for someone who doesn't take any shit from the knuckledraggers.

Are there any professional sports teams in Alabama or Mississippi?

Probably would have a hard time convincing athletes to move there.

Ummm... the ;) indicates I was giving you shit. Though I am sure you were aware of that and simply wanted to take advantage of another opportunity to rip on Bama and Mississippi

Lots of athletes come from the south so I doubt they'd have a problem living there. There aren't sports teams in those 2 because the market is too small.

Liberal Hartford lost the Whalers, Liberal Seattle lost the Sonics while Oklahoma now has the Thunder.
Conservative areas attract business of all kinds.

Thats exactly why Alabama is in the shape its in.

You mean where it attracts people and business with a lower cost of living?

The only truly honest measure of how "good" any state (or country for that matter) is the percentage of people leaving versus the percentage of people entering.

False.

Education, happyness, job oppertunities, per-capata income, and freedom of those living in the state count for something.

So, when people are so desperate for work and oppetunity they will accept a lower wadge that corporations will come to the state to take advantage of them.... that means its a "good" state?

When unhappy people cant get the oppertunity to leave... That means its a "good" state?

Who says those don't, they are factors for people leaving and entering a state. Nevertheless ULTIMATELY the people leaving versus entering is the only honest way of measuring how good a state is.

Cuba is often lauded by the left because it has universal healthcare, world class education system and social welfare programs galore with tight gun control. Yet they make it illegal to leave, why would they do so if life was REALLY so great there?

Again, I can TELL people why a state is great and so can you. At the end of the day, it is their choice and not yours or mine or anyone else's opinion that matters in deciding that.

When unhappy people cant get the oppertunity to leave... That means its a "good" state?
LOL
What oppurtunity do they need to leave? This is not Socialist Cuba, anyone is free to leave anywhere.
If it's their job or family or community that keeps them there, then those are factors they consider more important than any of the things we listed

I love that. I would definitely be into doing that too, if I had to be anywhere in that area.
