I'm impressed, though not surprised, that even on an issue like this regarding beer you can't speak out against it because Democrats did it.

Yeah. You can't even buy alcohol one day a week in Arkansas. At least in Oregon they don't shove a bible down your throat. You're free to buy alcohol whenever you choose.

Maybe a gun tax?

5k gun tax, 50k gun tax on handguns, to be paid yearly (or monthly). Anyone who fails to pay is to be immediately and summarily executed that minute after 12:00 on the deadline.

Social engineering.

Liberals are as guilty of it as the theocons.

Classical conservatives such as myself (and classical liberals for that matter) aren't the ones pushing for stricter smoking laws, or higher taxes on alcohol. Unlike you, we believe in freedom to do as one pleases, without government interference, so long as it does not infringe upon the rights of others. It is this principle which made this country great. It is not the government's job to "discourage" any personal choice.

Liberals want to control drinking/smoking.
Theocons won't stay out of our bedrooms.

Different ideology, same shit.
 
For the record, I actually disagree with sin taxes.

But it just goes to show what a terrible state our economy is in, that tax revenues in all the states are falling massively, and the only thing they can do is make massive cuts or raise taxes massively - in the midst of a depression, no doubt the worst time to do either - because of balanced budget amendments.
