Guns in church bill dies in Arkansas Senate panel

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- A state Senate panel has rejected a bill that would allow concealed handguns in Arkansas churches, a proposal that divided religious leaders.

The measure would have removed churches and other houses of worship from the list of places where concealed handguns are banned in Arkansas. Only churches and bars are on that list.

The House approved the measure earlier this month. The Senate Judiciary Committee stalled the bill on a voice vote Wednesday.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Beverly Pyle, R-Cedarville, told the panel after the vote that she may try again with the proposal.

"This is not a gun question, it is a question of religious freedom," Pyle said.

Gov. Mike Beebe has said he'd sign the bill if it made it to his desk.

I preach in a rural congregation in Oklahoma 50 miles from the Arkansas line. We have no such law banning concealed carry in the church. I carry every Sunday.

pure idiocy to force law abiding citizens to remain completely defenseless when the loser who doesn't care anymore looks to take as many lives as possible before cowardly taking their own.
 
I think most of the church shootings are done by someone with a link into the church.

Also if God can't protect you in Gods house...

Carrying a gun to church just does not seem right to me leaning.

At one time in South Carolina it was legally required for white men to carry a fire arm to church.

So is my employer violating my second ammendment rights by not permitting me to bring a concealed weapon to work. Goodness knows there's many more work place shootings then in Church! LOL LOL LOL

What's hillareous is the common thread you didn't want to point out is that the assailant was a right wing gun nut who wanted to kill liberals.

It's truely funny that you don't get why this is so rediculous.

that depends. How does he provide for your safety while at work? Is he liable for your death if you should die because someone violated his policy?

for one thing, moron, I do see the irony of it. I also see the unfortunate need for it. It's not something I wish to be able to do just because, but there is a need for it when we have raving lunatics who care so little for life.

Ever since I have had a concealed carry license I carry everywhere I go that is legal. I have carried my gun to church for a long time......near 20 years. I have never had to use it anywhere......except at church. We were standing outside visiting like country folks do after church and someone ran over an old dog, not killing it but wounding it so that it couldn't be fixed. I was the only one who had a means to put the poor thing out of it's misery. I reached in my back pocket and did just that. I know this is a somewhat comical (depends on one's perspective I suppose) story but here is the deal. Every time I hear/read about some nut shooting up a church it reinforces to me the need for me to carry. Believe me, one wouldn't get far if they came in the door of our building with the intent of shooting up the place.......I ain't the only one packing.

I believe God gave us the means and the sense to take care of ourselves while putting our faith in Him. If you are sick, see a doctor (Matt. 9:12), work for a living (II Thess. 3:10), Be subject to the government ... to a certain extent (Rom. 13:1-7), etc. There's lots more to it than that but nowhere do I find that a Christian cannot defend himself when attacked. Many like to use the "turn the other cheek" quote but I would argue with them about that in life threatening situations. Some go to the extreme side of "do nothing and let God take over" and some go to the other extreme side and act like radical islamists wanting to kill whoever doesn't agree. Like I started this paragraph with: "I believe God gave us the means and the sense to take care of ourselves while putting our faith in Him."

I have a concealed carry permit and a badge, and I very seldom carry.
So I can carry pretty much anywhere except airports and govt buildings of course.
Actually I can carry in state govt buildings.
