I am an old lady and a college student. For the most part the 20-year-olds I go to class with are pretty much in line with your thinking on the issues that face both the country as a whole and the younger (<50-yo) generations as well. Education, health care, student loan debt, availability of jobs to enable a decent standard of living, LGBTQ rights, BLM, immigration, and other social justice issues are on their minds.

Agree with you on Biden. I believe that he is a competent leader and a good and decent man. But damn -- this was the time when we should have had younger, more energetic candidates. Bernie was great years ago, as is/was Warren -- but too old. But at least we got rid of the Malignant Moron so that's something. 2024! In your opinion is your generation engaged and involved as you appear to be? Enough so that they will not only get out and vote but actively seek to get younger, progressive candidates elected up and down the ticket?

In Illinois, at least, there is an increasing trend to offer preschool programs by the public school districts for ages 3-5. A good thing! My youngest daughter is a special education/early childhood specialist who teaches in one of these programs; they blend typical kids with special-needs children. Yet here she is, 33 yrs old and still paying off her student loans (she has a masters). She absolutely agrees with you on the importance of early education and intervention when needed.

So the government has been quietly privatizing the military by having contractors do the work formerly done by enlistees?? So we are paying them to serve, and then paying contractors to do the work the men used to do as part of that service?



Amen. I am an old white straight non-Xtian person. This not only makes sense, it is the best way to have a society where we recognize each others as neighbors, as humans. One of my parents was fairly liberal; the other was definitely not. In my own long life I have yet to see any good reason to embrace either the old conservatism of my younger years, or this neo-conservative Trumpism. Both are selfish, I-got-mine-so-f-you, non-inclusive religions. Yes, religions. When you vote for and then defend at all costs a vile bag of pus like Trump, you're not practicing politics, you're practicing a religion. You are a cultist. If this country is going to survive, we need to move past all this ridiculous tribalism. It probably won't happen though until my generation passes from this Earth.

It's very good to know that our future is in the hands of young people like yourself. You are the quintessential American -- a mix of nationalities and genetics, intelligent, hard-working, outward-thinking. Those things with the red hats waving traitor flags? Not much.

I'm technically the end of Gen X and the beginning of the millennial generation. Those of us in our thirties are engaged in politics. Those of us in our twenties are not as much. We saw more "youth" involvement in this year's election than we ever have before, I think. The coalition needs to survive as a means of progress and not a response to evil.

Yes, the military has been privatized. My dad still works for them as a civilian contractor. He says that almost all of the work that used to be done by enlistees is now done by private contractors. They're inept and untrained. Gawd help us if they have to fight a war on our soil.

Your thoughtfulness and kindness give me comfort today. I don't often see those characteristics in strangers anymore. Again, thank you for raising good people and for being a good person. We can't accomplish much without each other. I believe that you're doing your part; and I promise I will continue to do mine.

I like Dutch Uncle a lot. We're not politically aligned in some areas, but in others we are. He's a vet. I'm a peacenik hippie. Yet still we have found common political ground.

When I hear the term "Jewish Nazi" the first one who comes to mind at the present time is Stephen Miller the self-hating Jew who was all for family separations at the border. Trump's son-in-law is also a sadistic POS who happens to be a Jew. I'm Jewish and these are the types that need to be shunned by civilized folks of any denomination.
