Liberal Democrats vs. Barbie

Another day, another ban and try for less freedom from the Democrats. Today's target is Barbie, which some Liberal Democrat proposed a ban for.

"CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Barbie could get an unwelcome present for her 50th birthday: outlawed in West Virginia.

A state lawmaker proposed a bill Tuesday to ban sales of the iconic Mattel doll and others like her.

The proposal from Democratic Delegate Jeff Eldridge said such toys influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development.

"Basically, I introduced legislation because the Barbie doll, I think, gives emphasis on if you're beautiful, you don't have to be smart," Eldridge said.

A Mattel spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. The Barbie doll officially turns 50 on March 9, and the toy maker has made big plans this year to mark the anniversary.

Barbie has had her foes over that half-century. Critics said the doll promotes materialism and an unnatural body image. "

I've known the left's arguments against Barbie since I was a kid, hearing them talk about it tries to make girls think they need to be beautiful, but so what? A lot of boys including me wanted to have the physique of He-Man but all people come to a realization that toys are fantasy characters and like movie characters they are not the norm.

It seems Liberal Democrats are no longer content with just expressing their viewpoint, they are looking to force it on others.

Consideing the number of women who screw up their lives in an effort to shape their bodies (anorexia, bulimia ect), I have never liked Barbi.

It shouldn't be legislated, that is for sure. But I made sure my daughters understood what was what.
 
Feigned outrage from the same group of people who attacked the Tele-tubbies because one of them seemed gay. :)

Let them come out with a gay Barbie .. or a black Ken kissing a white Barbie .. or a muslim Barbie .. and let's see if it's "liberals" who would be losing their minds.

Have you seen all the plastic surgery shows on t.v. today? that plays more with minds of young people, than Barbie.

I had to search for it to see if it exists, because like everyone else I never heard any protest, uproar or anything else about it. Both the left and right complain about some things, but it is increasingly and mostly the left that seeks to actually ban what it dislikes. As evidenced by the amount of bans and attempted bans we keep seeing from them.

Mattel does not sell a white Ken and white Barbie together, why would they sell a black Ken and white Barbie together?

I think one fool attacked the teletubbies, whereas I have heard MANY Liberals go after Barbie. My wife made a teletubbies costume for a nephew and my daughter wore it as well.

I do feel sorry for people with kids these days. Having to explain crap like the above in addition to explaining that not everyone lives like the kids on The OC, Gossip Girl, The Hills, Paris Hilton etc.... seriously... how many fucking shows do we need about the 'troubles' spoiled little rich kids have?

I think that most people just get a "n" and "m" mixed up while typing. Most often they say Dano is me. I think that is because they more often type my name and just get used to it.

But I think that some are trying to "insult" me or him by mixing up the names purposely.
