dec 17 2020 The driver of a box truck that struck and killed five bicyclists on a stretch of Nevada highway last week, and told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel, had a high level of methamphetamine in his system, prosecutors said Wednesday. Jordan Alexander Barson, 45, of Kingman, Arizona, faces 12 felony charges, including driving under the influence and reckless driving, in a criminal complaint filed in Las Vegas.

Prosecutor Eric Bauman said Barson told investigators he was driving his regular work route between Las Vegas, the Colorado River town of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Kingman when he fell asleep.

Blood tests showed Barson had nine times an allowable amount of methamphetamine in his system, Bauman said.

Why should he be? The bicyclists were riding in the middle of the highway posted for 75 mph. If they were too stupid to stay on the shoulder and out of traffic moving that fast that's on them.

As an aside, I was driving down Arizona 79 a few years ago at roughly 75 mph in a truck towing a trailer and loaded with about a ton of tools and building supplies. I came over a hill and there were between 20 and 30 bicyclists, followed by a van with it's blinkers on, doing all of about maybe 10 mph. I couldn't pass because of oncoming traffic and nearly rear ended the van which would have catapulted forward into the bicyclists.
I immediately called the Pinal County Sheriff's via 911 to report this illegal and incredibly dangerous bullshit by these retard bicyclists. I hope the whole group got whopping massive criminal tickets for that shit because they deserved it creating what was a huge safety hazard.

Second, he's facing being in prison for decades. What makes you think either Arizona or Nevada are Lefty states?

I don't know where they were on the highway and neither do you but they had a right to be there. This is one more reason we need to lower the speed limit to 45. If this nut had been doing that speed he could have avoided crashing into them.

What does states rights have to do with this?. I agree highway homicide is an issue to be left to the states and the states should make it murder when a DUI kills someone. Don't give me that "this was an accident" crap. THINK, you deranged demented despicable degenerate TRANNY.

There are 12 felony charges, so hardly coddling. He did not intend to kill anyone, but he was reckless. That means it was not murder (intentional killing), but rather an accident due to criminal recklessness.

Depending on state law... In Arizona you have to ride in the first 3 feet of pavement from the curb or edge of pavement, period. You cannot take up the entire traffic lane with your friends and pedal down a highway at 10 mph or so when traffic is doing 70 to 80 mph. It was the bicyclists in my case that were TOTALLY at fault. They were riding illegally contrary to Arizona state law. The van following them was operated contrary to Arizona state law too. You can drive too slow on a road like that van was doing.

Now, if it were an Interstate highway in Arizona, riding a bicycle on it at all is a misdemeanor. Bicycles and pedestrians are not allowed on Interstate highways whatsoever.
