Time Article: Can Marijuana Help Rescue California's Economy?

so if the USA has THAT MANY, why is it that difficult to get it decriminalized?

Because we are not open-minded people and we live in a box.

It took us 264 years before we figuted out that enslaving human beings is a bad idea.

How many lives were wasted on prohibition before we finally figured that out?

...and id like to add that the state poured huge amounts of money into fear mongering. Every other commercial on tv and radio on the run up and still passed.

Additionally there was some test questions in some towns about legalization for medical use:

Summary: Should the representative from this district be instructed to vote for legislation allowing seriously ill patients, with the consent of their doctor, to possess and grow small amounts of marijuana for their personal medical use?

Town, no vote, yes vote

As you can see not a single loss on what was a sampling to determine if they should put it on the next ballot. All tho this is just one state I believe this is happening all over the country.

And I am much safer being stoned than being drunk. I don't recall doing anything remarkably stupid when I was high. I cannot say the same for times I was drunk.

I don't recall doing much of anything while stoned:cool:

Most adults use it to just chill at home, pop a bag of dorrito's

BAC has a good point. I also think its hard to get big numbers to stand up and be counted.

Lets face it, between the time you stand up and the time its made legal, you are basically saying "I am a criminal - Watch me closely".

The citizens have been over 50% support for about a decade and now at 66% which may be a tipping point.
It's a testiment to how scared of republicans democrats have been. They were and are pussies.

None of them want to stand up and say they spent time and effort to legalize a drug. That could look ugly come election time.

Being "anti-drug" is like being "anti-pedophile" when it comes to politicians. Its the safe answer and doesn't blow up in their face.

Obama has been a game changer her.
Hear me out before bashing.
1. He mocked Clinton with "yeah I inhaled, that was the point"
2. He instructed Holder not to raid states that have medical MJ, that's freaking major change.
3. Democrats have a huge chance to grow some balls, it's ironic that Frank leads on this issue. They can stand behind fiscal responsibility, civil rights, or science.
Only moron rightwingers oppose decrim at the point imo.

he did NOT instruct holder not to raid medical marijuana states, he instructed holder not to raid medical marijuana dispensaries.....HUGE difference.

say 50M Americans smoke pot avg of 1 oz per year. thats 50m oz x tax it 50bucks 2.5B in taxes. Add in the need to not pay for law enforcement and prison for pot smokers. prob another 1B.

to be honest the market price would go way down if legalized.
CNBC just had a big discussion on thier lunch show. The guy from MPP says pots sales are higher than all vegies and corn combined and it's not taxed. Coupled with the mainly racist laws in the 30's that black men would rape your white wives if allowed to smoke pot. Do we really need to keep supporting that lie.
