Republicans Disinvite Palin to Major Fundraiser

Congressional Republicans Tuesday decided to ditch Sarah Palin in favor of Newt Gingrich for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in Washington June 8.

Sarah Palin is out and Newt Gingrich is in.

Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.

Just weeks ago, the House and Senate Republican campaign committees were giddy at securing the telegenic Palin for the dinner. But then things grew murky. At the time, the Alaska governor's office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision. Meantime, spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding between the Alaska governor's office and Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, that accepted the invite.

Sources familiar with the Palin snub fumed about how the governor handled this.

"She was a disaster," one Republican source told FOX News. "We had confirmation."

As for inviting Gingrich, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ken Spain said the GOP "decided to go in another direction."

"Speaker Gingrich is a leader," Spain added.

Another source familiar with the invitation indicated that the campaign committees were so incensed with Palin that they did not even bother to officially notify her that they rescinded the invitation.

Multiple efforts to reach Palin's staff in Alaska for comment were unsuccessful.

The decision to book Gingrich instead of Palin seems to be indicative of growing discontent in the party with the Alaska governor and her potential ability to lead the GOP. And it's the latest in a series of gaffes that have plagued her since the November.

Palin withdrew at the last moment from speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference meeting in Washington earlier this year.

If I was her I wouldn't bother with the jerks in the Gop anyway..

also there is a volcano spouting off about 100 miles from Anchorage, so if she had left, she would of been criticized for that, now if she stays to take care of Alaska, she is criticized for that..

some seem to be very afraid of Sarah Palin for some reason, the DNC and their media lapdogs can't seem to let a week go by without some snippy article about her, even if they make something up.. the Rinos in the gob can't let it go either...as far as I'm concerned they can all go to hell..

go Sarah

I really liked Palin at first because she was new and hot. And while I do think she has gotten a bad rap from the media and "feminists" I think she has also brought unnecessary trouble on herself.

What a bullshit story...and the bias is thick enough too cut with a knife....
Cut through the crap and what is the story...

Sounds like they were very happy to have Palin

the Alaska governor's office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision.

but Palin had not yet committed to the gig

spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding

obviously there was a misunderstanding and rather than wait,
Newt was invited in her stead...Palin was their first choice and missed the boat

END OF STORY

Boy, one must have to be a real political junkie to find Sarah Palin hot. Now don't get me wrong. She's an attractive woman but hot?

As presidential and VP candidates in US History go... she pretty much tops the list unless you're gay. No, she likely won't be on the cover of Maxim next month, but, YES HOT!

I agree with cawacko... she was invited, they were elated, she never confirmed, they booked Newt. End of Story... the interpretive opine at the end, is typical liberal spin... yes, even at foxnews.com, you sometimes find it.

For the record, if I were booking a GOP fundraiser, I would rather have Newt speak than Palin. Not that I don't think Palin would do a great job, or isn't a "leader" but Newt is probably the most astute fiscal conservative in politics today. We need a strong conservative voice to move the idiot moderates in our party away from the edge of the cliff they're about to jump off!

I guess I should preface it with 'for her age'. When determining strictly 'hotness' I'd like to think I can keep political beliefs and everything else out of it. Hot is hot regardless of whether one is a R, D or Communist.

Got news for you pal, those moderates are the only thing saving you from political extinction. Al's Newt will do is chase more people out of the party.

Sara is certainly attractive but come on and fess up. It's the combination of her being both attractive and politically powerfull that makes her hot.

Right-wing arguments are the most disingenous thoughts on the face of the earth.

1. Palin's own PAC DID confirm she would be attending the event.

"JUNEAU -- Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, mistakenly confirmed Palin would headline a Washington, D.C., fundraiser for congressional Republicans in June.

SarahPAC said to have jumped gun on GOP dinner
'ENTHUSIASM': Helper mistakenly said Palin would headline event.
http://www.adn.com/palin/story/726702.html

So how about ending the crap that suggests republicans went with Ginghrich because they didn't know if she would attend.

If someone didn't already know this truth, it took exactly 33 seconds to find out.

2. It wasn't the media, liberals, socialists, democrats. Obama, muslims, martians, or was it so-called RINO's who know Palin was a mistake from the beginning.

Kathleen Parker
David Frum
Charles Krauthammer
Chuck Hagel

.. Just a few in an ever-growing list of CONSERVATIVE republicans who want to move the party away from Palin.

It was the Republican Party, including many conservatives who DISINVITED Palin as ther are DESPERATELY looking for a new direction. But as is the usual failure of conservatives, they're always looking backwards for the future .. thus they've now resorted to digging up the disgraced Newt.

Even when FOX reports it, conservatives cannot accept the reality that theirs is a failed ideology. The Bush years exposed all the warts.

Too bad, I was hoping Palin would remain in the spotlight for republicans .. but it appears that even most republicans aren't that dumb.

What is truly astonishing is that anyone would ever believe that someone like Palin deserves to be a national leader.

... shades of Dan Quayle

I don't care what anyone thinks, I like Sarah Palin. As to now nothing has come to light to make me dislike her.

She still has over a 60% approval rating in Alaska, so it matters nothing what others think of her for the time..
and you saw the crowds that she generated for the McCain campaign, so the Dnc knows she is threat to them and they have went into full attack mode on her already...and that will matter nothing also...Look out for Sarah Palin come 2012

I like her too but I don't want her as President. Hell if I was an Alaskan resident I'd have a hard time voting for a journalism drop out as Governor let alone President.

I have no problem with you liking her brother.

I like Beyonce' .. but is she a national leader?

NO.

That's the point my friend .. along with the ever-fraudulent nature of right-wing argument.

To be fair to Beyonce, i'd be more inclined to trust her with a little red button marked 'nuclear launch' than i would Sarah Palin.
