Well I agree with most of your observations and if you were to say that the far right is much more guilty of extremism than the left is in current domestic politics I would agree but there are to many historical examples of those on the far left being just as anti-intellectual. The Russian revolution would be an excellent example.

There are different perspectives to be drawn from the Russian Revolution, but what of our own revolution? Certainly it was driven by the left and it was necessary.

How about the Cuban Revolution? Certainly it was absolutely necessary.

Using comparisons specific to this nation would give a more clear picture. I've supported armed insurrection in this country to end overt oppression and murder of African-Americans. 364 years of it was enough. It was a necessary and effective step that had to be taken and there was nothing anti-intellectual about it. There is a very sound and intellectual argument to be made to why this was necessary.

What we're hearing from the right is insurrection because they support a dying ideology that sees everyone as the enemy. They can't have their way so people they don't like should die. There is no intellectual argument to be found anywhere in that bullshit .. and there there is no necessity for it.

I suggest you do that. First example I'd give you is the Soviet Union. It was an illegitimate government that operated without consent but at the point of a gun Ultimately, with out violence and with out guns it collapsed due to it's own illegitimacy as the people of those nations, eventually, just refused their consent. The same is true of the old eastern bloc European nations.

You're argument is a "might makes right" argument. That those who have the guns rule, regardless of consent, and that can happen.... for a time. Ultimately if the people of a nation with hold their consent, then that government, eventually will collapse and that sir, is a historical fact.

Your argument neglects certain facts that would ultimately undermine your point. That 'illegitimate' government murdered millions in it's name and power because they had the guns. In that way, they governed without the peoples consent, they governed through their power from the barrel of a gun. To say that they collapsed without violence and without guns is either blatantly ignoring the decades of death or outright lying that it didn't happen. I'm hoping that it's not the latter.

Yes, might makes right, and people will only remain totally free as long as they have the might to do it. governing by consent works only as long as the government abides by it. When they refuse, those who have the guns and the might will survive. Not the other way around.
 
We can take guns away from Tex-ass gun nuts easy enough. Look at Waco.
