You still don't get it, do you? The issues of freedom are passe. They no longer exist. Freedom is the ability to live a whole life free of danger. To be comfortable, not to starve and not to be manipulated by those in power.
It is true to say that all of us suffer the last one in one way or another but, by and large, and again in the societies in which I have lived, it has never been necessary to even consider arming oneself against ANYONE.
I am truly sorry that Americans feel the need to be their own little Rambos. It may be that that makes it so easy for your government to send you to war.
True, I know nothing about you. You may be a great guy, we might even enjoy having a beer together BUT you like guns. That is just too wierd for me.

normally, they would not be. The problem you face is that by only knowing one single thing about me, you consider me unenlightened, probably uneducated, and regressive instead of progressive. This is a common trait in people who consider themselves better than others, or 'enlightened', because those others believe in things that seem crude and barbaric to you. It's unfortunate that people like you picture others like this. It does you zero credit, and in fact, makes you look truly ignorant.

Truth be told, you've actually regressed in your thinking instead of progressed. Freedom and liberty is an imagined concept to you. It is the same freedom and liberty that we were experiencing back in the 1600s and 1700s. Back when the only rights you had were ones that the crown said you could have. Those of you in most other countries are back to that kind of thinking, which is really backwards and unenlightened. You allowed yourselves to be goaded in to thinking that only government bodies and agents are professional enough to provide you with the safety you seek, when in fact the opposite is usually the case. In the last century alone, over 100 million people have been murdered by their very own governments, usually after having been disarmed under the pretense that their government can now provide for their safety.

We here in America are still dealing with statists trying to shove that line of thinking in to our heads. Alot of people here have already succumbed to that sick ideology. Sadly, some of those people found out all too late that their government and its agents are not responsible or liable for their safety and protection and have lost their very lives because of it.

I fail to see how 'enlightenment' means being defenseless and vulnerable.

Not by a long shot, fireball. And I wanted to ask you where you got that wonderful avatar. If I blow it up to about 2'x4', it would make a PERFECT target for the 25 yard practical pistol course!

whoever sold you that crock of spit, you should hunt them down and get your money back....

freedom has nothing to do with being free from danger....what about risk takers, those people who live on the edge, Xtreme sports....those are dangerous. driving your car to work is dangerous.

manipulated....LOL. every person on the planet manipulates people, everyone. most people are easily manipulated and it is my right to manipulate them, that is my freedom. if people bend to my will because i can manipulate them better than they can manipulate me has zero to do with freedom.

seriously, what part of the planet are you from?

I GET things perfectly. Freedom, to you, is passe. Freedom doesn't exist for you, except that which your government provides for you. You say freedom is the ability to live a life free of danger. Tell me, is there absolutely 100% total lack of any danger whatsoever in your nation? I work hard to be comfortable, to feed my family, and i'm only manipulated by people in power if I choose to let it happen. So what is the difference between your idea of freedom and mine?

I don't need a gun.

"I have a friend who lives in Louisianna (SP). He is a gun buff. Two of his neighbors disliked his guns and were constantly mocking his "Trespassers will be shot, Survivors will be shot again" sign. Until after Katrina. Quite a few neighborhoods experienced looters. Theirs did not."

Wow, you are claiming that the NOPD confiscated all the guns in the entire state of Lousianna??

No wonder they weren't doing anything about the violence in the SuperDome. They were busy driving thru all the parrishes confiscating guns.

Idiot

I don't need a gun.

I don't NEED a gun either. I CHOOSE to have guns because they are the most effective means of defense I know of. I can CHOOSE to have a gun because I have that inalienable RIGHT to own one if I choose to.

On the offchance, in your country, you were to ever NEED a gun, what would you do?

Of course there are dangers. There are dangers on the roads - guns won't change that. There are dangers of disease - guns wont change that.
BUT when my daughter was in her teens she could go out with her friends to a disco and come home alone and we would KNOW she was going to be OK.
My wife can travel on her own at any time day or night and never be in danger.

In every society in which I have lived, gun ownership is illegal. Therefore you would be arrested.
Indeed should you even WANT to own a gun most people would be highly suspicious of you.
Intelligent people do not WANT to own a means of killing other people.
Simple concept. It's what we call enlightened civilisation. I'm sure you will understand one day.

I do not want to kill people.

I do enjoy plinking, target shooting, varmint control, hunting, and want to learn to shoot skeet.

We need gun control. Do school, church and nursing home shootings mean nothing?

Are the fantasies of a few gun-toting wannabe thugs worth more than the lives of children/ Ask those who have to bury their dead,

Does it not occurr to you that these shootings happen in "Gun Free Zones"?

no, you DON'T KNOW that. Unless EVERYBODY obeys every single law in your country. Are there no violent crimes in your country?

To believe that gunlovers should be allowed to keep guns is to ignore a fact: gunlovers are shooting people, and it seems like they are doing it almost every day.

Six dead at a nursing home in North Carolina.
Three dead police officers in Pennsylvania.
A gunloving mother kills her son, and then herself.
A man kills his estranged wife and their children. Another shoots his five kids. One dead, four wounded at a church camp.
Fourteen dead in Binghamton, New York.
Two dead in a Michigan community college.

Very often the "law abiding" gunlovers buy the guns and then sell them to criminals.

"An Elmwood Park gun shop that is a defendant in Chicago's lawsuit against the firearms industry Wednesday was named among the 10 worst gun dealers in America by a national gun control group.
Breit & Johnson Sporting Goods Inc. sold 347 guns between December 1989 and January 1996 that later were traced to crimes, including 27 murders, according to figures released by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

Breit & Johnson's firearms license was revoked by the ATF in October 2001 because "they weren't maintaining proper records of firearm ," Ahern said. The company has been allowed to continue selling guns while appealing that decision, according to Ahern.

Breit & Johnson is among 39 named defendants in a federal lawsuit brought against gunmakers and dealers by Chicago and Cook County. Defendants include gunmakers Glock Inc. and Smith & Wesson Corp., and several Chicago-area gun dealers."

What you are describing is a criminal act. That is not a law abiding citizen.

You THOUGHT or BELIEVED she would be ok. There have been rapes, kidnappings and murders for as long as there have been people.

My daughter went to parties, football games, and other functions when she in her teens. She went to work at night and clubs when she was in college. (in fact she still does both). Despite the huge danger you claim gun owners present, she has still never been shot. Yes, I do worry about her. But thats what Dads do.
