This wasn't a waste of time

Agreed, but there's no chance of a 2/3 Senate vote.

All the convictions and punishment of previous politicians did not seem to send a message to the current crew. The law is not usually a deterrent because they don't think they will be caught. Those who obey the law is not because they are afraid of punishment but because they think it is morally wrong.

Outstanding. And very true.

Trump tried the coup AFTER the election, so no, the accountability wasn't the election result.

The accountability will be trump never holding office again, and Trump going to jail and white supremacist groups being deemed terrorist groups and hunted accordingly.

But the coup failed so his defeat was the punishment. Trump is not likely to seek office again (although his lawyer says he is the mayor of Mar-a-Lago). Trump is very unlikely to go to jail and only those white supremacist groups with a record of illegal acts can be deemed terrorist. There is nothing illegal about being a white supremacist by itself.

It was a waste of time only if the sole purpose was to convict. Seventeen Republican Senators wouldn’t do that even if Trump ordered the insurrection in writing. But it was important that the case be made to the country, and it was made exceptionally well.

Hello BartenderElite,

The prosecution really did their homework. They are laying out the case brilliantly. And it's important for Americans to see the logical progression, and connect the dots on this one.

Trump was reckless and irresponsible, and put our republic at risk. What's happening now is all about accountability. Don't give us the "he's out of office - what good will this do?" nonsense, or "this will just further divide the country!" Trump did what he did. We shouldn't sweep it under a rug.

And can you imagine any other trial where half of the jury says ahead of time that they already know what verdict they plan to render, without even seeing the evidence presented? Or where they doodle while the prosecution is making its case?

It looks like an airtight case against Trump.

But he won't be judged on the basis of the evidence presented.

He has already been judged innocent by those who are afraid of getting primaried.

The Democrats are simply in the process of making them look shameful for the verdict they are already committed to give.

And doing a phenomenal job of it!

So charge him with a crime then.

Certainly threatening our Republic is illegal so what's the hold up?

Is the left just stupid or something?

Hello Flash,

Which part do you disagree with? Do you think there is any chance for conviction? If so, that is overly optimistic. Some of the JPP liberals said the first trial had a chance of convicting.

I thought the first one had a chance. I also thought Republican Senators would do their job. Ha!

I don't see any difference in the dynamics here.

I'll be pretty surprised to see a conviction this time.

I remember. People are often overly optimistic about the chances of success for their own side. Every week liberals had a new issue that was sure to get rid of Trump--emoluments, income taxes, business dealings, Mueller report, Stormy, Ukraine....

They've already been given billions in taxpayer money, and are begging for more.

But when all this is over more or less by late this year, I want them around. I'm willing to pay them and argue about how much
to keep them afloat for a year.

They're 'too big to fail'. They're going to be a drain on the taxpayer for years. Perhaps the upper level mgmt. should take a 50% pay cut.

All true. I'm all for hard bargaining, I'm just picturing a world without an airline industry. I like flying coast to coast in 4 1/2 hours for $400 if I want to.
You are a true republican of the George Will mold. Google him with "too big to fail"

PS the auto industry paid back the gubmint, so it's possible that it can work. Like lend lease in Europe..

I was merely borrowing the flawed catchphrase.

The banks paid back the loan with interest. They weren't allowed back into the pool until they did so.

GM was a bit of a loss for the taxpayer, but only because the feds. sold the stock shares at a loss. They did make major concessions in the process, though.

That's the next step. This is just to put it all on Congressional record.
