'Kung Flu': Texas Ramen Eatery Covered in Racist Graffiti After Owner Opposed Lifting Mask Mandate

A Texas ramen restaurant was vandalized with racist graffiti on Sunday after its owner spoke out against Republican Governor Greg Abbott's recent decision to lift the state's coronavirus mask mandate.

Photos shared to Facebook showed racist graffiti in red ink on the windows of the restaurant, including the words, "No Mask," "Kung Flu," "Commie," "Hope U Die" and "Ramen Noodle Flu."

Shannon Lee, daughter of legendary martial artist and pop culture icon Bruce Lee, denounced President Donald Trump’s use of the term “kung flu” as a nickname for COVID-19.

She also shared thoughts on harnessing the philosophy of kung fu to overcome the insult.

Lee, who regularly writes and speaks on her father’s philosophies, told NBC Asian America the president’s racist rhetoric runs counter to the actual spirit of the practice of kung fu as well as the late icon’s teachings.

And why, precisely, does that matter? Did we name Mexico as the culprit in the swine flu outbreak? Did we point to Africa when Ebola came ashore? What about S. America when zika virus struck?

It's just stupid and childish nationalism at play, from a failed IMPOTUSx2 who promoted hate and division.

In fairness, Owl, didn't we call the last real big one the "Spanish Flu?"
If it were just a name, it wouldn't be a problem. It's the stupid racist actions that cause our real national humiliation.

Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
 
Infectious diseases throughout history have been named for geographic locations where they were thought to have originated: Spanish flu, West Nile virus, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Zika and Ebola, to name a few.

I enjoyed living in Texas, and there are tons of good people there.

The problem is Texas Republicans and JPP conservatives utterly and willfully fail to recognize how racially insensitive rhetoric like "Kung Flu" is.
