Yes, it is most certainly PORK. To justify the PORK you have idiots in DC creating yet ANOTHER 'potential' pandemic. The way they are treating this is like it was a more robust form of ebola breaking out.
Like the Avian flu and SARS we are about to waste hundreds of millions on a hoax.
Yes, let's treat disaster preparedness as "pork." I'm sure that would work out well.
Let's keep it in the regular budget, rather than include it in an "emergency stimulus" package, this is not "stimulus".
That's rubbish, if it made sense it could be included in the budget. It is not "stimulus" it doesn't create enough jobs to make it stimulating to the economy as a whole.I disagree. Given the disastrous economic effects of a flu pandemic and the fragile state of the economy it made sense to include it in the stimulus bill but I see your point.
That's rubbish, if it made sense it could be included in the budget. It is not "stimulus" it doesn't create enough jobs to make it stimulating to the economy as a whole.
This isn't a stimulus measure and it doesn't belong in that bill.
Again, put it in a bill that people can hear the arguments on, not one that must be voted on NOW NOWNOWNOW, because the President wants to sign it four days later in Denver. Something like this shouldn't be stuffed under the radar in a bill meant to stimulate the economy.
Pretending that a crisis that is not is stimulus because if that crisis did come it would be hurtful is retarded.1) Whatever. As I said I see your point but simply saying that something is "rubbish" doesn't make it so. A flu pandemic during a recessionary period could cripple the country. Given that the purpose of the stimulus bill was to respond to the recessionary conditions and to prevent further deterioration of the economy there is a valid argument that flu pandemic preparedness ought to be included in the bill.
2) And enough with that dumbass NOW NOW NOW shit. The bill was debated for a month. And it wasn't stuffed under the radar. It was actually one of the items that the Republicans in the Senate stripped out and that Republican talking heads made fun of.
Again, not long-term enough nor enough jobs to create stimulus. This doesn't belong in an emergency stimulus package. It belongs in the budget after the merits have been argued.Stimulus is anything that we will long term benifit from that will create jobs.

Our meds stockpile for such and incident is too small.
Some has to make and ship these meds.
Can you say new jobs?
