Florida Completely Out Of Control With Super-Spreader Spring Break.

"MIAMI BEACH — Florida’s famed South Beach is desperately seeking a new image.

With more than 1,000 arrests and nearly 100 gun seizures already during this year’s spring break season, officials are thinking it may finally be time to cleanse the hip neighborhood of its law-breaking, party-all-night vibe.

The move comes after years of increasingly stringent measures — banning alcohol from beaches, canceling concerts and food festivals — have failed to stop the city from being overrun with out-of-control parties and anything-goes antics.

This weekend alone, spring breakers and pandemic-weary tourists drawn by Florida’s loose virus-control rules gathered by the thousands along famed Ocean Drive, at times breaking into street fights, destroying restaurant property and causing several dangerous stampedes. The situation got so out of hand that Miami Beach Police brought in SWAT teams to disperse pepper bullets and called in law enforcement officers from at least four other agencies. Ultimately, the city decided to order an emergency 8 p.m. curfew that will likely extend well into April after the spring break season is over."

Tampa Pay Times Story: Miami’s South Beach confronts disastrous spring break

While the rest of the nation has been seeing nice drops in COVID -19 Cases, Florida has ceased dropping the numbers of cases and instead has remained stationary for the last two weeks:

Florida New Cases:

Florida also reported more than 1000 cases of new variants of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, leading the nation.

And just think. All those spring breakers are going to leave Florida and go back to whatever states they came from, taking with them whatever they picked up in Florida.

Yes. It's a disaster in the making.

The OP link includes a photo of the scene in Miami Beach, after the bars and restaurants had closed due to pandemic imposed early mandated closing time.

The streets were filled with maskless partiers.

Total super spreader event.

OP link: "Miami Beach officials said the crowd of partiers consisted mostly of adults from out of state, not college students. They said many of them didn’t even patronize restaurants and local businesses."

desantis is going after the trump stooge vote, and the dumber and less sensical your policies concerning covid, the more popular you are with dumbfuck trump stooges.

The cornonavirus pandemic is the biggest killer of Americans.

It has surpassed gun violence, traffic deaths, and all other forms of death for Americans.

Europe thought they were getting things under control and began to loosen restrictions. They were looking much better, just like the USA currently is.

Europe is now experiencing a new wave of infections and has gone back into lockdown.

We need to be careful.

Allowing this to happen is completely irresponsible.

This quote is from the OP link:

"New Orleans, which attracts thousand of tourists every year for Mardi Gras, successfully avoided the mayhem that erupted in Miami. Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, had already put a statewide mask mandate in place as well as occupancy limits on bars, restaurants and other businesses.

New Orleans Democratic Mayor LaToya Cantrell, also a Democrat, went even further by closing bars completely in the city, even those allowed to operate as restaurants. City officials also closed iconic Bourbon Street to cars and limited pedestrian access for the final weekend of the season.

Despite strong opposition from Republicans and business leaders, Edwards and Cantrell were determined not to repeat Mardi Gras 2020, which state officials later said contributed to New Orleans being an early Southern hot spot in the coronavirus pandemic.

“If people think they’re going to come to Louisiana, anywhere ... and engage in the kind of activities they would have pre-pandemic, then they are mistaken and, quite frankly, they are not welcome here to do that,” Edwards said in a news conference ahead of Mardi Gras.

Miami Beach took less proactive measures under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has refused to implement a mask-wearing rule and has insisted on letting businesses stay open."

We will not do the right thing. The rightys and the owners want things to open up. They just know nothing will happen to them. Their sense of immunity will end up hurting us badly.

Florida's Governor Ron Desantis has refused to implement statewide mask or distancing requirements.

Yet his numbers by case and death rate seem to match states that use draconic measures. Interesting. I did notice that they closed down the street party in Miami, maybe there's a sign that they are doing something even if it isn't exactly what you want when you want it.

Coronavirus Thanks Ron DeSantis for Making It Feel So Welcome at Spring Break

MIAMI BEACH (The Borowitz Report)—In an exuberant endorsement of a 2024 Republican Presidential hopeful, the coronavirus thanked Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, for “making me feel so welcome at spring break.”

“It’s been a tough couple of months for me, since Biden came in and started boosting vaccinations and mask-wearing,” the virus said. “I really needed this vacation.”

The coronavirus’s praise of DeSantis as “a fantastic host” stood in sharp contrast to its harsh criticism of the Miami Beach mayor, Dan Gelber, whom the pathogen called “a total buzzkill.”

“Dan Gelber has not made me feel welcome at all, which I find divisive and hurtful,” it said.
The coronavirus also predicted that it would not be alone in supporting DeSantis’s expected White House bid. “Every variant I talk to is excited about it,” the virus indicated.

It is impossible to assume comparisons of COVID levels are reflective of only the respective government measures and not other factors. Florida has a high number of Republicans who refuse to follow government directives. California has twice as many people as Florida. Taiwan has nearly the same number of people as Florida. That's a better comparison. Taiwan is like the poster child for how government should handle a pandemic. And the people are more willing to comply with government. Taiwan took it seriously after their experience in SARS. They sent an advance team to Wuhan, determined prior to the WHO announcement that this was indeed a budding pandemic, and then Taiwan immediately imposed strict travel restrictions which required everybody entering to quarantine for two weeks, monitored by the government. Taiwan now has 10 deaths total, compared to Florida's 32,000 deaths.

Florida wanted to 'allow freedom of travel,' so incoming travelers were 'advised to consider self isolation upon entering the state.' There was no government monitoring or verification.

Exactly!

Hello Damocles,

Florida has a high number of Republicans who refuse to follow government directives. California has twice as many people as Florida. Taiwan has nearly the same number of people as Florida. That's a better comparison. Taiwan is like the poster child for how government should handle a pandemic. And the people are more willing to comply with government. Yet California who told you to recover your face when chewing, not to visit your neighbor at all, still won't let folks go to school, still has about an equal death rate with Florida.

Pretending that we don't have states with draconic measures that we can compare with is preposterous.

NK still reports zero Covid deaths, because they shot folks that got the disease... They must have handled it perfectly by your measure.

Does California have a "high number" of folks that just reject government or do you admit that your theory falls apart in states that have a much higher measure of leftist ideologues yet continue to have high death rates?
