Virginia cops pepper-sprayed Black and Latino Army officer

Goodbye Taft2016,

What a BS crack. You've made no point about the discussion at all. All you did was mouth off at me. I don't tolerate that.

You become the latest example that I mean what I say in my Signature. I have zero problem with people who support their opposing position with convincing arguments and linked support for what they believe. But this is just a pathetic personal attack. I would rather scroll past a place holder that says you are on Ignore than to waste my time reading anything more you have to write. I come here for stirring discussion, not to be trolled.

You won't be missed. Have a good life, if possible.

All you did was ignore expert testimony from someone who knows light years more than you do.

You're dismissed.

You posted a link that was rational and pragmatic. Unfortunately, people here want this to be a 'Black and White' issue.

I agree it's irrelevant.
But the Cops ... THEY don't know if he is armed or not. The more he acts suspicious (by NOT getting out of the car) the more he is assumed to be ARMED.

Of course they don’t know he’s armed. That is, until he sticks both arms out of his window. Which, BTW, is when they maced him.

Hello Jack,

Yes. I agree with that. But ...
I don't think that was the case here.

Now I know it's very chic and Woke and politically correct to boil everything down to Race, but the guy wasn't pulled over because of his Race, he was pulled over for no License plate and tinted windows.

He was asked/told (from 30 feet away) to 'get out of the vehicle'. How hard is that?

It was impossible to comply with conflicting orders to show his hands and get out of the vehicle.

Navario wisely decided to continue to show his hands. Had he reached back into the vehicle to try to get out he would probably be dead now.

All he had to do was get out of the vehicle when asked. You can keep defending this Moron all you want, this guy is an Idiot.

Hello Jack,

All he had to do was reach back into the vehicle and he would be dead now.

The Cops were 30 feet away when they first asked him to exit the vehicle. Simple request.
When they have to keep asking. When they have to begin cautiously moving forward, wondering why this guy refuses to exit the vehicle, wondering if this guy is Armed and Dangerous, the adrenaline rush begins to take over.

Relax Poli. You've earned your Race Card being stamped 'Approved' on this one.

He was armed!

Hello Dutch Uncle,

As Jack pointed out the officer made the stop without knowing the race of the driver.

Hindsight provides the lesson. Put a light on the tinted back window if there is no tag.

If he was observant, he would have looked for it once the vehicle pulled under the light, verified it was a legally owned car, and driven on without even talking to the driver.

Instead, he was on his little power trip and obviously had a big attitude because the driver did not immediately pull over along a dark road. Professional officers remain objective and alert. This guy was neither.

Observant and following procedure is in their job descriptions. I won't even mention hosing down a citizen with pepper spray for not moving fast enough to suit the officer in question.

Come to think of it, why did the police even initiate the stop in a dark deserted place? There was no need. The vehicle was obeying traffic laws, presenting no danger. He could have simply followed for a while until they were in a better area.

Cops typically have no issues telling drivers why they are being pulled over, unless they’ve stopped you for driving while black.

In my view, fuck a cop, unless he demonstrates a proper, civil, respectful demeanor I have very little to say to him. Legally, I don’t have to say anything. License and registration is what they get. If going to court is necessary, I didn’t talk to him because of his aggressive behavior. I know a lot of cops, who advise me of what I am legally obligated to do

The first thing they do is try to get you to confess. "Do you know why I pulled you over?" The hope here is that you will say, "I was going 40 MPH over the speed limit" or some other incriminating thing... "Well, I'm high and weaving..." you know something like that.

Always say, "No, officer, why?"

The story goes they didn't see plates on the vehicle. I expect they followed, didn't see a temp tag and pull a stop. The two police, probably the senior asshole who used the pepper spray, jumped the gun and overreacted. This should have been routine. Windsor will seek a quick settlement and promise not to do it again.

And promise to do better training.

He said to them, “I’m afraid to get out of the car.” The cop replied, “You should be!”

Do bad guys really drive to a well lit gas station?
