maintain a high approval rating despite all of the negative comments pointed out on this board

my thought is that he is a master politician and chooses his battles fighting only where it benefits him and leaving other battles until later

plus the enormous problems that he faces

Actually I think it's just in the nature of the electorate to give a new president 'a chance.' Look at where GW's approval rating were at this time in 2001. However, the problem is on the approval of policies, and there President Obama is losing ground. Most of the 'important' issues are now going to the Republicans and that is a serious turnaround since fall last year.

It seems to me that he is going to run into further problems if he doesn't start leading, rather than delegating important decisions off to Pelosi and Congress. The public is already expressing serious concerns about the stimulus bill and the resulting deficit, with little to show for it. Now he wants to turn over health care, as long as 'done' by July.

Meanwhile we are inundated with stories about him and Biden going out for cheeseburgers; Michelle's shoes; the dog; the 'dates'; etc. While the economy may be Carteresque, micromanaging is not Obama's problem.

the majority of the college age electorate that voted to make history are oblivious to the rest of the issues and they couldn't care any less about it. As long as they 'hear' nothing bad, it's all good.

because it's the bible thumping fools complaining.
Educated people are leaving the republicans and are going to give this way smarter than Bush pres a chance.

Not all conservatives are 'bible thumping' nor 'fools.' To think that makes you ignorant.

smarter than bush? question, how does following damn near the exact same policies as his predecessor make him smarter? and wouldn't this totally debunk the 'bush is stupid' argument if it's deemed his policies are the ones to follow in the first place?

The obvious answer is there are many people on this board who are out of touch with the rest of planet earth .. and nearly all of them are republicans.

Time will tell.

the christian coalition in CA took over the grass roots level of the rep party in ca and almost destroyed it with a narrow agenda...all quite legally

the reps need to be more inclusive if they are to regain political vaibility

i do not have a problem with conservatives, but i want to know what happened to the gop of fiscal conservatives and personal freedom

gaia knows this was not bush's way

Well from what I've seen many of the 'social conservatives' think that they should control the platform and be gatekeepers. Because they are vocal their impact is magnified. Then again, the candidates are for the most part, not of the same-regardless of platform.

As for gatekeepers, with the exception of some social conservatives, the only others are of the other party or spectrum of politics. Most advice I'm seeing to the GOP is coming from liberals, not conservatives.

Somehow I don't think they mean the GOP well. ;)
