It never even occurred to me to mock Nimrata's name (which I think is actually cool) and my mind would have never drifted to associating it with nimrod.

I think it is situational.

In California, foreign sounding or exotic names generally do not even raise an eyebrow, given the diversity of the state.

In the 1970s Deep South where Piyush and Nimrata grew up, I could see them being terrified of being teased by school kids with their unusual names.

I mean, it is the year 2021, and you still have xenophobic rightwing rednecks on this thread, and who are presumably adults, mocking her name.
 
At one point I thought Haley was a leading candidate for the '24 nomination. I don't think that anymore. But if she did win the Presidency I could see this headline appear in a newspaper:
