We have lots of frivolous and irrelevant small political parties--whether you number them third, fourth, fifth, or whatever.
We're discussing the possibility of a third Major Party developing---one that can actually win statehouse seats, congressional seats, and maybe a serious run at the White House as a contender, not a spoiler.
That would be very hard to do, but some are saying that the time is coming for it.
I'm skeptical, but I'd love a serious, viable party to the left [economically more than socially] of the centrist Democrats.
I just don't expect to see one, because even with enthusiasm from the ideological standpoint, from the financing standpoint, it's a huge task.

The Green Party platform is what you claim to desire. And at least in the Bay Area you get Green Party members elected to local offices. If your goal is a third party with a more leftist platform, it already exists. So either you need to boost the existing Green Party or rebrand in a different fashion.
I would vote third party at times, till Trump, then my conscience told me I could not vote for him because he was a moron. My conscience was right.

On social issues, however, we're really split between woke and un-woke Democrats.
Gloria Allred types don't thrive in downtown Boston, although they exist in the burbs.
