What a pile of crap...
Racism and bigotry were hallmarks of the south... The 1964 Civil Right Bill is a great example...
The bill was introduced by a Democrat; President John F. Kennedy in his civil rights speech of June 12, 1963.
The Bill was pushed through by a Democrat; Lyndon Johnson.
He had help from northern Democrats and northern Republicans after a 54 day filibuster by the southern block, or Dixiecrats. Senators Everett Dirksen (R-IL), Thomas Kuchel (R-CA), Hubert Humphrey (D-MN), and Mike Mansfield (D-MT) introduced a substitute bill to attract enough Republican votes to end the filibuster.
The conference bill was passed by both houses of Congress, and was signed into law by President Johnson on July 2, 1964. Legend has it that as he put down his pen Johnson told an aide, "We have lost the South for a generation."
The original House version:
* Southern Democrats: 7-87 (7%-93%)
* Southern Republicans: 0-10 (0%-100%)
* Northern Democrats: 145-9 (94%-6%)
* Northern Republicans: 138-24 (85%-15%)
The Senate version:
* Southern Democrats: 1-20 (5%-95%)
* Southern Republicans: 0-1 (0%-100%)
* Northern Democrats: 45-1 (98%-2%)
* Northern Republicans: 27-5 (84%-16%)

Notice there was NO SUCH THING as a Dixiecan... 11 total southern Republicans in BOTH houses... ZERO votes...
Yea, the southern Democrats were bigots, and so were the southern Republicans and conservatives!
