PHOENIX -- A liquor store clerk shot and critically wounded a 29-year-old robber brandishing a knife Saturday afternoon, Phoenix police said.

Officers said two men entered the store at 2300 W. Northern Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Both men had been in the store about two hours earlier and one of them bought a beer, police said.

They left and returned the second time, investigators said. One of the men went outside while the other remained inside, according to police.

The man asked the clerk for a piece of paper, wrote something down and after the other customers left, handed the note to the clerk, police said.
The clerk acted as though he couldn't read, officers said.

The robber approached the clerk, opened a gate that separates the clerk from the customers, and pulled out a knife, ibvestigators said.

The clerk grabbed a gun and shot the robber, police said.

The robber ran out of the store and across the street to a friend's apartment, officers said. He knocked on the door and as it was being answered, he collapsed, investigators said.

Police rushed to the scene and the robber was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

Wow can you believe they did not arrest the guy that shot him and defended himself with that evil tool? We have got to do SOMETHING about all these people defending themselves with firearms. /sarcasm

Yes, I am sure the clerk had a knife around there someplace.

Where's the calls for "equitable response"... I mean, you bring a gun to a knife fight?
